That one trend where it’s like “how do I look mei mei?” And it goes “so beautiful mama. How do I look?”

Except it’s James as a very young child, hanging out with his mom. He looks up and smiles at her, waiting for her to look back. His mom is staring at her own reflection in the mirror, smiling at the comment given to her from her son. She doesn’t turn around when James asked her how he looked. Didn’t acknowledge what he said. You can see her taking a few steps forward, walking away from her son as he attempts to tug on her shirt or dress.

“Perfect.” And it shifts to James holding up an acceptance letter for the garrison, standing next to the fridge with only his medals and perfect report cards hung up, and no family photos. He looks exhausted, the bags under his eyes are heavy and there’s no smile lines as he grins.
