Poetic cinema. I fucking love this panel. It's beautiful. We don't see Suo's mouth here– is he smiling? If so, is it a cruel twist of lips, or a fond, regretful smile, a final goodbye? Or are his lips turned downward, making the gaze of his eyes indifferent to leaving Nirei behind?

You can't tell. I guess with Suo, there were a lot of things we couldn't tell.

but the thing is, is that hetty didn’t just kill herself for thomas, she killed herself for her family. for the woodstones. for the people that sold her off, the people that abused her, the people that killed her best friend and dumped her lover’s body in a lake. she killed herself for a family that never loved her. she kills herself only to watch centuries of woodstones commit atrocities; all allowed because of her sacrifice. she kills herself for samuel, for elias, for thomas, for david.

she kills herself for a girl who has never had a real home or family. she kills herself for a boy who needs a push to follow his dreams. she kills herself for a couple that turn a haunted house into a home for the first time since she can remember. she kills herself for samantha and jay and maybe for the first time in eternity she thinks her sacrifice was worth it.
