what a strange place, iceland... this hunk of volcanic rock in the middle of a fault line, where the edges of tectonic plates split the landscape, where the springs boil and yet the lakes are deep and cool and still, where the mountains sprout up from nothing, and i turn away from all of it and look at the ocean.
i've never seen the ocean like this. i stand at the edge of this strange island and it stretches out all around me. in the bright, relentless sunlight i can see further than i've ever seen before, but there is nothing to be seen. no ships, no land, no islands, no life, there's nothing but the endless impossible blue of the ocean. should it really be so blue?
it calls to me. one day i will follow.
