I don’t know if it’s laziness or just the fact that less and less people have manuals now so if you don’t know someone who does you can’t practice. I learned how on my moms old car but it’s been years now and basically in the same vein as parallel parking in that I technically learned how to do it, but would probably need a few tries for it to come back to me if I suddenly had to do it in earnest

It's a chicken and egg thing though, i mean, young kids coming up today, yeah, absolutely availability is a factor! But like...people my age and older? NAHHHHHHHH Americans started buying automatics in force because they didn't want to take the time to learn how to shift or the effort to do it.

“new year, new me” lasted approximately until i was faced with the prospect of parking in a parking structure i have never navigated before and seriously considered walking 45 minutes out of my way to avoid doing so.
