Following @strawberri-animates's emptober idea, day one is normal but I didn't feel like writing an entire fanfic since I only remembered at 8:30 at night so just have some rambling about nature wives headcanons

Witches aren't allowed to marry humans because they're isolationist, but they took one look at Shelby and Katherine and went "these bitches gay, we can't stop them"

Katherine and Shelby's first kiss was in the Evermoore and the ghosts were just yelling "finally!" And bets were being cashed in

The witches are pretty "anything that isn't "normal" is bad" and so when Shelby looked through the library at Katherine's castle and found a book about the Emperors, she was absolutely thrilled to find a picture of High Wizard Gemini with a bi and a trans flag, she pretty much squealed about it excitedly the entire day

Katherine is naturally flirty, Shelby tries to flirt back but just devolves into incoherent muttering and blushing

Gem has literally sprayed Katherine with a water bottle because she wouldn't stop talking about how pretty Shelby was

How is any of this related to normal? This was originally meant to be domestic hcs but I'm ADHD and got sidetracked, also, no idea if I should tag the og creator of the Emptober calendar I'm following, don't know proper Tumblr protocol yet, sorry

SOS: This post sounds like a joke but I swear it is not.

So usually, my ADHD is awesome. 

I’m good at what I do. I am endlessly curious. I’m hugely productive on things that interest me. I have the ability to take in, store, and later recall bizarrely specific pieces of information about obscure fields. I can make connections between seemingly disparate ideas that others don’t see. I really think ADHD is what makes me a good and innovative researcher--

BUT!

Do any other Tolkien fans out there who have ADD/ADHD and/or are autistic really struggle with hyperfocus and hyperfixation when it comes to things in the canon or in the fandom, sometimes to the detriment of other passions? 

I go through periods where I cannot focus on anything but whatever I am currently stuck on, and this past week it has really been damaging my productivity in my PhD program. Whereas before I would spend twelve-hours straight working on an Excel sheet for a literature review, now I spend 12-hours straight writing fanfiction or obsessively chronicling every piece of fan theory about what happened to Maglor because:

NOBODY NEEDS A SPREADSHEET ABOUT MAGLOR.

I love my brain and what it allows me to do (most of the time), but I also love my job, my research, and school; and my funding (i.e., my salary) is dependent on my performance. How do you balance your obsessions with your responsibilities when this happens? 

I don’t want these things that bring me so much joy--Tolkien, fandom, rabbitholes of theory--to become those very same things that bring me guilt to even think about, and every time I fail to pull myself out of a Tolkien binge, every time I fail to thrust myself back into my research or my paper, I feel such overwhelming shame.

I love how everyone on my dash is either autistic or adhd, or at least it seems that way sometimes. I love you folks.

Anyway, this morning I made play doh because if I didn't put my hands on something squishy I was gonna die and literally my mood is up by 1000% now.

I only had 1/3 that amount of corn starch, so I did 1/3 the recipe and it made honestly the perfect amount for a single person to play with. Total cost for this is about $2 at my local Kroger if you don't buy food coloring, or about $5 if you do, but you'll be able to use the food coloring many many times.

It stuck to my hands worse than regular Play Doh but I didn't mind! Highly recommended. Loved playing with it when it was still a lil warm. I used a tiny bit of vinegar to help rinse out the pan I made it in, which did help a lot, and the bubbles are fun (but stinky!). It does get caked on pretty bad.
