I have no idea how popular storytelling is in Spain, but there's still a decent sized community in the southern U.S. My parents go to the Florida Storytelling Association festival every year, and there are always a few headliners for whom storytelling is their professional career. They all seem to tell personal stories sometimes, but also original fiction and folk tales.

Here, most storytellers, professional or otherwise, are children storytellers. We barely even have stand up comedians in Spain (and not all of the ones we have are actually good). I don't think you could make a living out of storytelling alone, probably you work on other related domains like theater or circus.

I have looked up if there are professional storytellers in Spain, and I have found a couple, although they mainly work for children and they also do theater. I was thinking that maybe it was related to the fact that storyteller is "cuentacuentos" in Spanish and "cuentos" (tales) are for children, but that's not necessarily true, there are cuentos for adults as well. Cuentos is just stories or tales.

I can't thank you enough for this ask. I just discovered that there is a Tale Marathon (Maratón de los Cuentos de Guadalajara) in Spain where many storytellers go. Yes I am typing as I discover things through looking it up.

I will close this saying that I really enjoy "cuentacuentos" as a word, it's closer to "taleteller" in meaning and it fills your mouth when you say it out loud.
