Ptolemy knew that, when he’d be dead, he wouldn’t end up in some grand sepulchre: he wasn’t important enough. Much more simply, he’d be cremated, his ashes scattered in the desert dry wind.
Actually, if he could have decided, he’d have preferred his ashes going in the Nile: some of them would have ended up in the sea, and some would have gone to enrich the mud of its bottom. And from there… well, from the mud was born the papyrus. And from papyrus scrolls were made, on which new books would have been written, that Ptolemy, unfortunately, would not read. But, if a small part of him would somehow live on in the papyrus, then it was as if he had participated as well.
It was a nice thought; it was like taking a part of that eternity that he hoped to achieve with his own book, but in a different way.
❛ the sacrificial animal does not share the spectators’ ideas about sacrifice ❜ (lucille)
ღ꧁ღ╭⊱ꕥ ❝I agree with you, and it seems that civilization does too. Animal sacrifice is being forbidden, severely castigated. ❞ The same was occurring with mortals, the vampiress was punishing all those who used innocent souls to satiate their caprices. At least Ai was attempting to implement that policy. Nature and all its segments should be preserved, in order to keep things harmonized. ❝I don’t even crave to envision what an animal feels or thinks when it’s being sacrificed.❞ Animal atonement had been applied predominantly throughout the archaic era, as a form of ritual, a plea to the gods for participation, guidance. Modernity had partially annihilated such practices, or at least that was what the young maiden thought.

Celeste was no stranger to being totally oblivious to certain things. Sure, she could formulate plots, strategies, keep a generally cool head in the midst of battle, but sometimes, she was quite dense. Particularly when it came to romantic relations or intentions.
Certainly; she was no innocent little maiden. But sometimes, the finer points of romance just go completely over her head. Perhaps it was due to her upbringing - or, simply, a lack of it. But regardless, she oft found such gestures difficult to parse.
It was nothing to do with sex, and more to do with romance. She was completely, utterly out of her depth. She was thirty odd years old, and still lacked any form of romantic experience or courtship. So when Alisaie found that letter stashed in one of her many journals from Aymeric, written prior to her first confrontation with Saint Shiva, she found herself not really thinking too much on it.
“This certainly isn’t your handwriting.” The young Elezen woman pointed out, sitting at Celeste’s desk. Celeste herself sat on her bed, cross-legged with a book in hand and a cup of tea on the bedside table. They both needed a break from things - a distraction from the horrific fates that had befallen some of the Scions.
“Is it a letter?” Celeste asked, sipping her tea and grimacing a little. Still too hot.
Alisaie chuckled, though Celeste failed to see whatever she found humorous. “Just so. ‘Ishgard faces an unprecedented threat - yet in her hour of need it is not her knights who stand poised to defend her-’”
“Oh, that letter.”
“Yes that letter. ...And what letter is it?” Alisaie found something about it to be familiar, but couldn’t quite place her finger on what it was. Certainly it was written with something akin to fondness.
Celeste put a bookmark in her book and closed it, a fond little grin on her face. “Oh, he didn’t sign it. That’s right.” She chuckled and shook her head. “Aymeric wrote the letter before I went to confront Shiva.”
Alisaie turned to look at her with amusement written across her features. “He’s very wordy… and I’d say was fond of you even then.”
“Fond of me?” Celeste chuckled. “I mean, certainly. I doubt he would’ve written a letter if he didn’t at least tolerate my presence at that point.”
“No not - “ Alisaie dropped her hands into her lap and stared at Celeste with something akin to deadpan. “Gods, I didn’t realise you could be this dense.” She placed the book back on the desk and stood, disappearing out the open door.
For a moment, Celeste thought she said something wrong. That was until Alisaie came back with a pile of about five books. “I take it you’ve never read a romance novel?” She asked, eyeing the well-worn book in Celeste’s lap. It was some kind of horror or suspense, judging by the title.
“I might have once or twice.” Celeste thought, putting the book aside and pulling the books from Alisaie’s hands and into her lap. “They seemed to mostly be about sex though.”
“You didn’t read very good ones then.” Alisaie puffed out her chest, as triumphant and confident. “Read these. Then re-evaluate your relationship with Aymeric and get back to me.”
“...But I-”
“Then re-evaluate your history with Aymeric. I should’ve been more specific.” Alisaie corrected herself, running a hand through her hair. “Gods, that’s probably the worst-kept secret in Eorzea by now.”
Celeste clamped her mouth closed and looked down at the pile of books in her lap. Well, she wasn’t one to turn down a book in the slightest. Though, knowing that Alisaie even had these was amusing in itself.
“In any case, I’ll enjoy reading about your romantic escapades with the Lord Commander while you educate yourself.” Alisaie’s smirk returned, and she went back to reading the journal, keeping the letter safely to one side. She seemed awfully confident.
...Thinking about it, Celeste did see quite a collection of romantic looking titles in Borel manor.
