—- well , look who’s just arrived ! if it isn’t the one and only 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐮 . though , around here she’s known as 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲 . don’t tell her i said this but the 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫 year old 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐥𝐚𝐰𝐲𝐞𝐫 kinda has a reputation of being 𝐩𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 and 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐝 . but y’know , she can be 𝐨𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭 and 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜 too . typical 𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐠𝐨 . anyways , welcome home and stay safe 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐬 !

the only daughter of vincent and agnes liu , florence was the apple of her parents’ eyes the moment she was brought into the world . her father was a successful prosecutor in the new haven court system , having fought tooth and nail to make his way into yale university years before . her mother was a homemaker , a devoted member of new haven’s rotary club and a repeated victim of being roped into her girlfriends’ pyramid schemes . her father worked long hours throughout the entirety of florence’s upbringing , and her chances to get to know him were few and far between . → despite hardly knowing him , florence’s father was her hero . she had set her mind on yale and law school long before it’d become her time to worry about those things . she was dedicated to her dream over all else , throwing away opportunities for a teenage social life time and time again in favour of her penultimate goal —- yale , law school , and then the district attorney’s office .
academically and in terms of ambition , floss was born to follow in her father’s footsteps . emotionally ? she didn’t have what took . she’s an empath , the kind of person who can’t sit through a sad scene in a movie without shedding a sympathetic tear . the stubborn parts of her wouldn’t let this stop her though , and she managed to get a position in the district attorney’s office in new haven as a prosecutor as soon as she passed the bar exam . → florence sees the world through rose - coloured glasses , even after being privy to all of the horrors of the criminal cases she’s worked on over the years . she’s a hopeless romantic that’s never had time for love , a functioning affection addict , and the type of person that sits at home teaching themselves how to knit on a saturday night . because she was raised an only child in an upper middle class white collar family , she still hardly understands the word ‘ no ‘ into adulthood . she’s pushy and unafraid to ask why , one of the main reasons she’s good at her job despite her heightened emotions .
slowly but surely , working as a prosecutor began to take a toll on floss . she stuck with it , ever - determined , but it is the reason for the chain smoking habit that she doesn’t think she’ll ever be able to kick . that was until her father died of a sudden brain aneurysm just after his 58th birthday . she was devastated , and mourned for weeks alongside her mother in their new haven home . it wasn’t until months had past that they began to go through her father’s files in his home office , and florence found the misty hollow case files . → her father had worked on the little bits of the cases that did make it to the da’s office despite the lack of convictions or charges . even as the case went cold , he’d kept all of the files meticulously organized , as if he’d want to come back to them some day .
in a last ditch attempt to feel close to the fading memory of her hero , florence quit her job at the da’s office and picked up her life in new haven to relocate to the epicenter of the cases —- misty hollow . she runs her own criminal defense law firm out of the first floor of her home on the north side of town , and without the seedy underbelly of a big city , the cases she works are far more her emotional speed . → she’s been here for over a year now , and though nothing new has come of the cases of the misty strangler , the 50th anniversary has her digging out her father’s old files more frequently than ever .
