I saw this under a writing prompt and couldn’t help but think of the yautja’s and their significant others. Mostly because this could apply to ANY of them... and if they were in a staring contest too. First one: “You’re making a face. I know that face. It won’t work, I will resist it.” Second one“I will keep making this face at you until you falter and give in.”
(I will shamelessly use this opportunity to write about my ocs and I’m not sorry lmao) (Jenny is a human girl and I’mara is my bi-sex librarian yautja dad)
-
“I’m not letting you borrow that”.
“But -, why-! I’mara-, I NEED it-, Listen, you’re my only friend here, who else would lend me their wrist gauntlet for study purposes?”
“Repeat that to yourself until you figure out why”, I’mara huffed, putting the last books he was holding back into their respective shelves.
“You’re a scholar, you should totally support me in my... knowledge quest!”, Jenny exasperated, lowering her voice when I’mara hissed for her to be quiet.
“Knowledge quest?... Jenny-”.
“I jussst want to run a scan through it, I’ll give it back in thirty minutes, I promise! We’re in a mothership. Dozens of clans-, your clan, and even your ex-husband-”
“Ex-mate”.
“Your ex-mate are here I’mara! Where could I run to?”, Jenny put her hands together in pleading, looking up at I’mara with her puppy dog eyes.
“I can’t fix the gauntlets if I don’t see a working one, pleasee”
“Don’t make that face, I know that face. It won’t work, I will resist it”. I’mara said, firmly.
“ I will keep making this face at you until you falter and give in”, Jenny got closer and pouted, emphasizing her look.
“Jenny, stop it”.
“Pleeeease?”
“I’m not giving you the-”
“Pleeeeeeasee”
I’mara gave in and started laughing when Jenny started mimicking a whining dog.
“AHA-!”
“Shhhhhh-!”
“Aha-!”
“The human capacity of humiliating themselves to get what they want will always surprise me”, I’mara shook his head, taking his wrist gauntlet off and handing it to Jenny, “I'm not leaving you alone with it, however”.
“I’m not gonna say there’s plenty of space in my shop but I can get you a chair yeah”, Jenny said, grabbing I’mara’s hand and walking off while eyeing the gear in her hands, I’mara shaking his head close behind.
Of bonding and mates.
The day passed by slowly, painfully so, given the last few week’s frenzies with the rut season. Kha’dra felt uneasy and went to Dha’ra’s house, he was sure that -unlike his own-, Dha’ra’s house wouldn’t stink of mating and hormones.
“You know what I want?”, Kha’dra asked while stretching over Dha’ras’s neatly done bed. He felt funny, to say the least, ever since the last rut season, he didn’t feel at ease, as if something was missing, something of great importance.
“What?”, Dha’ra replied from his desk, his concentrated gaze never leaving his project, a project that would be on somebody’s skin that same week-, ‘if approved’, Dha’ra would say, but who would be so stupid as to reject one of Dha’ra’s creations anyway?
“I think, maybe-”. “You don’t know what you want yourself.”
“Of course I do. I want a mate, a permanent one”. “A mate?... Rut season has barely ended, you still have bruises”. Kha’dra checked his arm at the remark, his dark skin carrying the remnants of fading bruises from his partners, the memories gave him brief joy before his mood turned grey again. “That doesn’t mean anything.”
Dha’ra shook his head, stretching his arm and sighing from the strain of working for so long. “Rut season does things to you, maybe you’d want to wait a while more before hunting for a mate. Some people go back to their rut partners for one reason or another”.
Kha’dra huffed, sitting up and leaning against the bed frame, “Would you?... Go back to a rut partner, I mean.”
Dha’ra’s hand stilled over his tablet. “I know you had your...Well, your nights out, as well.”. “Everyone has needs.”,Dha’ra said, placing his pen on its stand and reaching for his water bottle.
“Exactly, but now that you’re fine, what would make you think about calling whoever was it that helped you through the season?”, Kha’dra knew he was pushing a line, Dha’ra wasn’t one for sharing his intimacy with anyone, he could only hope Dha’ra understood what he was feeling and his sudden curiosity.
Long seconds of silence passed by as Dha’ra drank from his bottle, obviously not keen on having to speak again, and about such tender matter as well. “It….Depends”, he started, Kha’dra knew not to interrupt, or else Dha’ra would simply close up again.
“We are not the same, Kha’dra. Our reasons would be different, maybe what makes you happy would be...too much for me, and vice versa.”, Dha’ra sighed, getting up from his chair. Dha’ra pulled a tress tie from his wrist and pulled his blackish locks up as he walked out of the room, Kha’dra following close behind.
“Have you ever thought about having a life partner? Someone to spend your days with? I mean, I know you like being alone and all but-”, Dha’ra turned back to give him a look as he finished tying his tresses up in a topknot. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m just trying to understand you”.
Dha’ra nodded and kept walking, taking a turn in the corridor and entering his kitchen, Kha’dra still following suit. “I enjoy being able to work with no distractions, but that doesn’t mean I like being alone.”
“You do, though”.
“Sometimes, yes. And yes, I have thought about having a life mate”. That caught Kha’dra off guard, he hummed expectantly as Dha’ra opened the fridge, taking out sandwiches he probably made when Kha’dra said he was coming over.
“And?”, Kha’dra urged, gently, very gently. Dha’ra sighed, handing Kha’dra his food, “And I don’t have my hopes up.”, Kha’dra deflated, “Ah.”,“Lifemates are special, a bond is formed, different from everything you’ve ever felt or seen before, It’s not...it’s different from rut season mates, Kha’dra”. Dha’ra was older than Kha’dra, Dha’ra knew how to climb by the time Kha’dra was born, their mothers tried to have their sucklings at the same time, but it all fell through when Dha’ra’s mother conceived and Kha’dra’s mother didn’t. Kha’dra was born four rut seasons later than Dha’ra.
Dha’ra’s and Kha’dra’s age difference might not have been that big but for Kha’dra, Dha’ra was like a much older brother, wise and responsible, things Kha’dra lacked in himself, or so he thought. Maybe Dha’ra hardened up when he fought back jokes and threats when he started pursuing his artistic career instead of ‘the glorious’ one, lost some of his sensibility to criticism and jests from their clanmates and from the world as well.
Whatever it was, Dha’ra, even at a young age, was wise enough that Kha’dra knew to listen to him when he actually talked more than just a few words.
“Bonding is eternal. You may ruin the bond, the two individuals may separate, die and so on-, but the bond is always there, it bends but never snaps. Making someone your life mate is more than just hunting together. The old ways are slowly being surpassed by this and the generations to come, but the principle of bonding is still there, the companionship.”
Kha’dra looked at the sandwich in his hand, suddenly not hungry anymore, “...Like I’mara and Dak’hir?”, Kha’dra said, looking back up at Dha’ra.
“Precisely. Dak’hir and I’mara grew up together, different clans but same team, fought in their Chiva together, parted ways in profession but never in their hearts, they bonded and lived together for years. The stress and what I can assume were personal problems split them up, causing Dak’hir to vanish to Earth for many cycles and I’mara to overwork himself into fatigue and disinterest for his own kind.”, Dha’ra sighed, walking over to his kitchen table along with Kha’dra, “Suffering for love is something I don’t intend on doing, when Dak’hir came back he wasn’t the same, he was never the same, I’mara as well. Knowing someone so well and then suddenly not knowing them anymore, not knowing yourself anymore...I don’t want that.”, Dha’ra said, opening the sandwich wrap as Kha’dra took everything he said in.
Dha’ra was about to take his first bite, lowering his food again when Kha’dra finally spoke up, “Maybe you just gotta risk it sometimes.”
“Maybe.” Came the simple answer.
-Another- Snacc coming through
Can you tell I'm going crazy with anatomy studies yet?
In their society there are: various warrior status, scholars, artisans, teachers, and leader types. How would the average Yautja rank most desirable mate to least desirable based on occupation?
They're honestly all very even, for example-,
Dak'Hir is an elite hunter, teacher and clan ambassador. Other yautjas might crush on him cause hes smart enough to deal with clans and a great fighter (because hes a teacher).
But then we have I'mara. I'mara doesn't hunt regularly, he exercises and such but prefers books and studying over anything. So other Yautjas might crush on him because hes very smart.
Dak'hirs feelings are constipated,he doesnt know how to express very well and while Imara speaks with ease,he doesnt give in to his feelings-,
Making both seem like theyre hard to get,and if theres something your default yautja likes is a challenge.
Of course, yautjas who seek "the greatest line" and rhat kinda stuff will always seek the best fighters and whatnot, smartest people, the strongest and so on.
But that's coming from a very crude point of view, without considering that every yautja is a yautja and that people want it or not, they have feelings going on as well lmao
“It’s three in the morning, go to bed.” “I will once I finish this.” “You said that four hours ago.”
---
“Jennifer Brightpath, it is three in the morning-! go to bed already!”, I’mara huffed, hands on his hips like an angry mom. I’mara went to bed and woke up twice and Jenny was still over her latest project.
“I will! It’s just-, listen, I’m this close to fixing this bad boy! It’s a very, very important commission I’mara, you know it”. Jenny said, pulling her goggles back on and hunching over the near-perfect wrist gauntlet.
I’mara felt like ripping his tresses off. “It’s been FOUR hours-, you said that FOUR hours ago!”.
“I literally won’t be able to rest until it is fixed”.
“CHILD-, Oh , Paya help me-!”, I’mara bellowed in exasperation. “You are tainting my perfectly clean tutor record like this. Your aunt will have my head when she sees your state!”
“Uh-huh, hold on a sec...”, Jennifer said absently. I’mara growled but getting closer to inspect her doings anyway.
Only to almost have Jenny headbutt him when she jumped from her seat, a now glowing wrist gauntlet in her hands, “FINALLY!”.
“Congratulations, you’re truly a master”.
“Oh, thank you I-, wait, no-, no, no!”, Jennifer could only protest as I’mara took the gauntlet from her hands, setting it on the table and hoisting Jennifer up like she weighed two pounds. “As you said-, ‘FINALLY’! It’s time for bed”, I’mara shook his head, carrying Jenny to her makeshift bed in the other room as she rambled about ‘still having ideas for another project’.
(Its only midnight here yet but God did I have fun writing this dumbshit lmao)
Eofer is very interesting. I get the impression that she struggles with not singling out the stations Yautja, just because of their species and her experience with them. Would like to know how the meeting with i’mara went and if she got a chance to spare with dak’hir, would she? How is her relationship with the tattoo boys?
Eofer would most definitely spar with any yautja that said yes and probably beat the shit out of them before being taken down as well lmao Eofer would lose if Dak'hir had his axes but hand on hand combat could be very interesting as Eofer's endurance and strength would very much surprise Dak'hir (and anyone in the room, really).
I'mara and Eofer's first meeting went like this!
Eofer had just stated the reasons she thought she wasn't fit for the Andromeda job, she didn't trust yautjas.
The Station's staff begged I'mara to change her mind, 'bring her to his side' as they said.
I'mara accepted to talk to her not because it was a challenge, but because something had clearly happened, and he wanted to know what.
Reading Eofer's file had I'mara nodding in understanding of her actions,of her defensiveness.
They met on a human ship just outside the earth,Eofer wouldn't set foot in his ship and that was final.
I'mara had been sitting when Eofer entered the study room he was in,I'mars always felt more at ease with books near him, he hoped Eofer felt the same.
"I take it you already know my name",I'mara started, removing a speck of dust from his blue cape.
"Yes,I do", Eofer said stiffly, "As you know mine".
I'mara nodded,"What I don't know, however,is why you're declining the job many of your kind would kill for".
Eofer sighed, "You read the file,or else we wouldn't be here, you know fully why".
"My people conquered space because we wanted more-,we always do. Your people go to space because they don't have anything left to lose...but you do,don't you?".
Eofer frowned at that, metal hand clenching and unclenching at her side.
"You lost the dearest person in your life, what's to lose now? What's holding you back there? Another love?"
"Shut up-".
"Too recent, I know..",I'mara trailed off, "and how do I know...Well,if its not a lover, a family member? Brothers? Sisters?"
"My sister died, years ago".
"Ah,my condolences...Well,not a brother, not a sister...but it's surely someone close, maybe not as close as when you lost your arm but close now".
Eofer couldn't help but glance at her arm at the mention.
"Your arm...Very well crafted, tenderly even, who made it?"
Eofer sighed,
"My niece".
I'mara's face lit up with a smile, "How precious-,a niece".
"I can't show my face in some intergalactic space station when that freak is loose in the galaxy"
"If you accept this job,you become an ally, protected by every honored warrior of my species, for however long you honor our agreement-, that protection extends to your niece as well".
"I can't leave her alone-,I lost my wife and she lost...we lost my sister".
I'mara's heart tugged at that,he sighed as he thought, "She made you that arm,Eofer, she can come with you, she'd be more than welcome".
Eofer looked at I'mara, obviously not believing him.
"What better than to have your eye on her than to take her with you?...Give yourself time to heal, meet new people-,hell, arrest some criminals! What's good to us isn't always of our desire at first...And if something goes wrong,I'll take you both back to earth myself".
"I will hold you to that".
"Excellent!".
"I will accept your offer...if you promise to look after her if anything happens to me".
I'mara was surprised, "I thought you hated my species?".
"I hate one of you-, my niece will not pay for it".
I'mara took a few seconds to think and then reply, "I accept your conditions. I swear on my honor to be your niece's guardian shall you ever perish or lack in presence".
Eofer smirked, "Then I accept the job".

Eofer and Dha'ra know each other and get along well seeing as Dha'ra is also very good friends with Jenny! Jenny got called over Dha'ra's shop (when he was still in the mothership) to fix one of his chairs, broken under the weight of a particularly big yautja customer. While Jenny worked, she noticed a few human tattoo machines on the walls and asked Dha'ra if they worked,Dha'ra said it was just decoration. Jenny being Jenny, offered to fix those too, since she was already there, she worked on them as well and soon got called off somewhere else.
Dha'ra gifted Jenny with a wall scroll of a serpent painting for her efforts, which Jenny loves with all her heart.
How above and beyond do your oc's go for holidays? Specifically, Valentine's day. 👀
👀👀👀👀👀
Jenny is particularly nervous around Valentine's day,her past experiences with it weren't so great but she will try to push it aside for her lover, come up with a heartfelt gift, something that connects with their story, how they met, maybe something they like doing together and such, would drop all of her work to stay with them.
Eofer would plan ahead and make sure she had the day off on Valentine's day, Eofer might be emotionally constipated sometimes (much like Dak'hir) but she would honestly try to make everything go perfectly according to her plan, maybe a movie at home or just stay together and relax, shes fine with gift giving but doesnt mind not getting anything back, being glad to have her lovers company.
(Assuming my yautjas know about Valentine's day and its traditions:)
I'mara would love to spend the day with his lover,be it stargazing or just laying around on their bed or even eating out somewhere,as long as he got to have some private time with them later-, would be content with anything they felt like giving him,but he would also put in effort to get a nice gift for his lover, matching something,be it jewelry or matching daggers, depending on what they're into.
Dak'hir would struggle to put his feelings out there clearly but would do everything in his power to have a whole day unbothered with his lover, would love go stay home and just have his lover in his arms, comfortable and happy, but would go out if that was their wish, would also put a lot of thought into the gift as well.
Dha'ra would probably paint or sculpt something that represents his and his lovers relationship, choosing to stay home and just have his lover to himself. Dha'ra might not look the romantic type but surely does purr whenever he's laying with his lover on their shared bed, spending hours just relaxing and holding his other half close, running his fingers in patterns around their skin, listening to whatever they want to tell him.
Mae'nat's Valentine's day would feel like you're getting courted all over again, she'd show off and flirt like it was the first time, telling her lover how this date would only be a reminder of her undying passion for her lover. Mae'nat would gladly present her lover with whatever they desired,be it a simple necklace or a heavy sword with skulls in it, just say it,she will get it.
Kha'dra would show his lover off, walking around looking and feeling the best, because he knows he's got the best mate around, making other youngbloods bite their tongues in jealousy while he strolls around with his mate by his side. Very much jealous himself, Kha'dra would spend the day proving to his lover just how much he appreciates them and of course just how great of a mate he is himself.
