@i-hate-yoga (tumblr won't let me actually tag you I don't know why). Okay, so latinx people can be white but only if they are like White White? As a white person myself, who probably wouldn't be able to pick out where someone is from simply by looking at them, should I kinda just have the mentality that any latinx is not white unless a latinx of colour states they are? Because, like I said, to me Souza looks white and if it weren't for her name and for people on tumblr informing me, I wouldn't have ever assumed she was latina and would have seen her as a white person. and what about white people who are assumed to be of colour? Do you think they face prejudices? Like Floriana, she looks Latina to me and I thought for ages that she was and I was shocked to find out she wasn't and I was pretty pissed off cause she's playing a Latina girl on supergirl! And she has a name that is not ""white"" which doubles the chances again of how likely it is for people to assume she is not white. So do you think she faced racism? Or is there a better word for it considering she is white and white people can not actually face racism? And as for Darren Criss, I went through my whole glee phase (many many years) and I had literally no idea he was half Filipino. He is very white passing and he has a white sounding name and it was so shocking to find out he is in fact a moc. But then I'm kinda like...how can he really face racism when no one seeing him on the street or even in casting calls or auditions think he is not white? I understand what you said about how you can't say anyone of colour doesn't face racism and I agree totally and he may have been darker when he was younger or had an accent. And I appreciate that and I would never say he doesn't face racism but, I dunno, I just feel confused. Surely someone who looks white has some form of white passing privilege? (I mean no offence at all, I'm honestly just trying to understand) and at the same time someone who looks and is perceived as not white, would face some form of prejudice??
