since xmas is only a couple months away i wanna bring up something important: fireball island. milton-bradley's fireball island board game may be mediocre to other people, but the fireball island in my household that we play every damn year is the absolute best. almost all of the original player pieces are missing so now it's like some weird crossover game where you could just play as anything as long as it fit on the board. most of them were little star wars figurines or army men or aliens. there's even a character that's just a macaroni noodle glued to a little piece of cardboard. it's one of the oldest placeholder pieces in there, besides the star wars guys. i always played as noodleman and i still do to this day. most of the people in my family are experienced fireball island players, seeing as we've owned and played it for years. but for some reason since i was 12 i was on a constant winning streak, ive won every year since then. i don't know why, i'm not even that good at board games, and i barely use my cards! the combination of the adventure of the original, the absurd character selection and the strategy of playing against my family makes it such an experience. what i'm saying is, if i ever say "fireball island is the best board game of all time", know that i mean MY fireball island and not any other copy. but it might just be nostalgia bias making it seem good.
