Today I had iaido practice with my iaido teacher. If y’all’re wondering why I never post photos form these practices, it’s because his dojo is at his house and he doesn’t want photos up on social media. Today we did Tate Hiza no Bu, Toho no Bu, and kata before chatting a lot during teatime. ~Wearing women’s kimono for iaido~ I wore this washable women’s kimono I made reversible alterations to for the first time in a while. It’s had a Edo komon pattern, but from far away it looks like it’s an iromuji, or patternless, kimono. It also has one kamon on the back. Since it’s very long and heavy, I only ever wear this in winter. When I hike it up and over my obi, it’s still knee length. Also, because it only has one kamon I only wear it for regular practice and not to formal events. One thing about women’s kimono that makes them difficult to use for iaido is the large opening on the sides. I hand stitched the sleeves to the body of the kimono to close that opening up.
