27/05/2014 – Tuesday – Sales
It’s been an amazing day for Imogen Records. Apart from anything else, I can hardly believe how wonderfully well my new album, ‘Capabilities’, is selling – it’s exciting to see something I’ve worked hard towards my whole life coming good like this. Thanks so much if you’ve bought it! Being a ‘salesman’ has never really been my thing, but when you believe in something the way I believe in this ethos, this plan of ours, it’s easy to big it up. I made this video today, in which I repeatedly suggest you buy the album if you haven’t already done so. It’s a good thing to do! Don’t expect an entry tomorrow – I know you’ll feel terribly bereft, and I’m sorry, but I’ll be in the Lake district camping in the rain with my old buddy Ryan. There’s nothing I like more than to hang out idly with Ryan, and this is just the sort of thing that clears the brain of all unnecessary clutter. I’ll be back soon with a fresh perspective no doubt, and a head-cold.

I love a good competition! And you should totally enter this one. Make a music video for my song ‘Thankful’ before the 7th of July. Make it as wacky, zany, colourful, ridiculous, vibrant, powerful as you like, using whatever equipment, resources and know-how you can find. It’s not about which video is the most professional… it’s about which one is the most utterly fantabulous and wonderful. 17/05/2014 – Saturday – Sneak-Peek
In stark contrast to yesterday, I didn’t enjoy my evening at the piano bar at all tonight. My voice was a contributory factor, but mostly it was fighting to hear myself over the noise of some kind of loosely-themed costume party that made it tiresome for me (a delicate artiste, in case you hadn’t noticed). A werewolf of some kind kept looking at me. 16/05/2014 – Friday – Piano
Every Friday and Saturday night I play piano from 8 til 10pm at a bar in Aylesbury called Mendoza. It’s pretty much my favourite thing in a lot of ways. I just sit in the corner while people are drinking or having dinner, playing whatever songs I feel like and noodling through new things sometimes too. It’s quite taxing on my voice to be singing non-stop for two hours like that, especially as there’s often a fair bit of noise in the place to sing over, but tonight my voice felt particularly good. How my voice feels makes a big difference to how enjoyable it is, so tonight it was especially enjoyable. Two different people asked me to play Billy Joel’s ‘Piano Man’. It’s pretty much the only thing anyone ever asks for. I should really learn it. But then, I’ve been saying that to myself for like five years… Maybe this is the year I finally learn it. Or maybe I’ll just learn ‘Uptown Girl’ to annoy everyone… winky face lol
15/05/2014 – Thursday – Surreptitious
I was in London today, firstly to see two particularly super-gawjy friends of mine, Katie and Robin. I thoroughly enjoyed talking to them about themselves – I sometimes have a bit of a tendency to blab on about myself, but perhaps restarting this diary has cleansed me to some extent of that compulsion. It’s lovely to ask people questions and find out what makes them excited for a change. In the evening I was at Spiritual Caipirinha Bar in Chalk Farm for my old pal Archie’s album launch. We used to play in bands together at school over ten years ago (WOW!) and now he’s releasing his first proper full-length solo record. The album is called ‘Surreptitious’ and features him playing solo, live versions of his songs (an absolute joy for anyone who loves super-stellar guitar players). So proud of this man. George Reece has created an album entirely in the last fortnight. From writing to recording and mixing and mastering he did it all, and completely by himself. Can't wait to hear it!
