I forgive myself, and reflect on what I’d do differently next time. If the opportunity is over, it’s over. You can’t reverse time and fix the past (even if you can plan on writing fics about other characters doing exactly that...............................................), so there’s no point in dwelling on it. 

If you feel like you’ve wronged someone, apologise to them. Then, forgive yourself. It’s in the past, you’ll learn from it now <3

There is honestly no point in fantasizing about what could have been and dwelling on your regret - that’ll just make you miserable. What could have been isn’t. Focus on what is, and focus on accepting it and being happy with it. That’s how to be happy. <3
