“Brutale, barbarico e selvaggio”: così il Pastore Sambrook ha descritto l’omicidio di Ian Ogle, prominente personalità nel mondo lealista e suo portavoce.
Sambrook, che si trovava con Ogle negli ultimi istanti della sua vita, ha detto alla congregazione riunita alla Covenant Love Church di Albertbridge Road che “Ian Ogle voleva proteggere i figli più che se stesso”.

La figlia, Toni Johnston, ha dichiarato che il padre è stato “il primo e unico amore di sua madre”.
Ogle sarà sepolto al Roselawn Cemetery.
Intanto, un 40enne e un 37enne sono stati arrestati in collegamento con l’omicidio. Le altre nove persone che erano state arrestate sono state tutte rilasciate.

Durante la conferenza stampa di giovedì, 31 gennaio, Jason Murphy ha confermato che una delle linee di indagine sull’omicidio di Ian Ogle, porta ai membri dell’UVF di East Belfast.
Ogle è stato pugnalato 11 volte alla schiena, poco prima delle 21.30 di domenica 26 gennaio, da un gruppo di almeno cinque uomini.
Il suo cranio presente una frattura.
Murphy ritiene che all’origine dell’attacco, possa esserci un alterco avvenuto al di fuori di un fast food in Beersbridge Road alle 20.45 di domenica.
“Le indigini sulle circostanze esatte di quell’incidente sono ancora in via di sviluppo, ma credo che Ian fosse lì”.
Stando a quanto riferito dal sovraintendente investigativo della PSNI, gli assassini avevano parcheggiato una Seat Leon nera, targata JGZ 7406, in Langtry Court, appena fuori da Templemore Avenue, per poi raggiungere Cluan Place.
“Dopo l’attacco, sono tornati in Templemore Avenue – alcuni degli assassini sono saliti sull’auto ed altri hanno fatto perdere le loro tracce a piedi, attraverso le case in Langtry Court”.
“L’auto ha percoso il tragitto lungo Templemore Avenue, Major Street e Lower Newtownards Road, prima di essere lasciata in Pitt Place”, ha dichiarato Murphy.
Gli investigatori stanno prendendo in considerazione la pista dell’UVF.
“Voglio essere chiaro – non c’è alcuna giustificazione per l’omicidio di Ian Ogle”, ha ribadito Murphy.
“Posso confermare che una linea di indagine, è quella secondo cui Ian sia stato ucciso da membri dell’UVF di East Belfast”.
“L’UVF ha rilasciato dichiarazioni in relazione all’omicidio di Ian, ma è troppo presto per stabilirne la verdicità.”
Murphy ha detto di voler appellarsi a “coloro che hanno influenza” affinchè collaborino con la polizia, per aiutarli a localizzare i responsabili e consegnarli alla giustizia.
“Riconosco che l’omicidio di Ian non sia stato solo un attacco a Ian – è stato un attacco al tessuto della comunità: gli assassini di Ian hanno unito l’intera comunità nella condanna”.
“Se c’è qualcosa di positivo che può scaturire dall’omicidio di Ian, sarà che la paura e le intimidazioni, utilizzate da alcune persone per esercitare influenza, sono state ora brutalmente esposte alla comunità e condannate da ogni angolo”.

Una delegazione dello Sinn Fein, tra Gerry Kelly, ha incontrato gli alti ufficiali della PSNI tra cui il capo della task force contro le attività paramilitari, per affrontare spinose questioni, quali l’omicidio del Ian Ogle e le attività criminali della UVF.

Kelly, dopo l’incontro, ha dichiarato: “Lo Sinn Fein ha condannato senza riserve il brutale omicidio di Ian Ogle, avvenuto domenica”.
“Abbiamo chiesto la messa in atto di misure adeguate per garantire la sicurezza degli altri membri della famiglia di quest’uomo, che è stato oggetto di intimidazioni da parte di persone legate l’UVF, per un lungo periodo di tempo”.
“La PSNI deve fare tutto ciò che è in suo potere per liquidare l’UVF e le altre bande armate, che negli ultimi anni sono state coinvolte in omicidi, pipe bombs, intimidazioni, incendi dolosi, spaccio di droga ed estorsioni. Ho detto alla PSNI che deve fare di più per contrastare queste bande e altri gruppi armati”.
“L’omicidio di Ian Ogle è l’ultimo di una serie di attacchi compiuti da paramilitari lealisti: è sbagliato, è inaccettabile.
“C’è anche un’enorme responsabilità nei confronti della leadership politica, per l’esistenza stessa di questi gruppi paramilitari dopo più di 20 anni dalla firma dell’Accordo del Venerdì Santo”.
“Queste organizzazioni sono una piaga per molte comunità. La violenza, l’intimidazione, l’estorsione e lo spaccio di droga, in cui sono coinvolti, devono essere sempre contrastati e condannati.”
“La leadeship politica unionista dovrebbe essere inequivocabile nel chiedere che l’UVF e gli altri gruppi paramilitari si sciolgano immediatamente”.

Intanto la PSNI ha confermato l’arresto di un uomo di 49 anni, avvenuto nella mattinata di mercoledì 30 gennaio. In stato di fermo anche un ventunenne, trasferito presso la Musgrave Serious Crime Suite per gli interrogatori.
. Nello stesso giorno si è tenuta una veglia per ‘Big O’, in Cluan Place, che ha registrato una massiccia presenza della comunità di East Belfast. Un coro unanime chiede, ‘nessuna vendetta’.

E’ Ian Ogle, ‘Big O’, la vittima del barbaro attacco di ieri sera a East Belfast, in Cluan Place
Lealista di spicco, Ian Ogle, 45 anni, è stato barbaramente ucciso a coltellate tra le 21 e le 22 di domenica, 27 gennaio. Dalle prime indiscrezioni, il commando omicida sarebbe stato composto da 5 uomini a viso coperto.

Si è tratto di “un attacco particolarmente feroce e brutale: le persone con cui ho parlato e che l’hanno visto, hanno detto che è al di là dell’incredibile”, ha dichiarato George Dorrian, amico della vittima.

La PSNI ha effettuato numerosi raids a East Belfast nella giornata di lunedì, anche se la linea di indagine non è ben chiara. Si ritiene che l’aggressione sia stata prolungata.
L’Irish News ha ricevuto una dichiarazione a firma UVF (Ulster Volunteer Force), circa l’omicidio di Ian Ogle. A garantirne la veridicità, è stato l’utilizzo di un codice riconosciuto.
L’organizzazione paramilitare lealista ha detto di essere “ancora in cerca di risposte su chi siano i responsabili di questo attacco…” E ha aggiunto “Chiunque l’abbia fatto, non ha agito nel nome del lealismo o dell’UVF”.
“Azioni di questo tipo minano la trasformazione positiva che sta avvenendo all’interno dell’organizzazione e prendiamo le distanze da questo atto spaventoso, contro un membro noto della nostra comunità locale”. “Inviamo le più sentite condoglianze alla cerchia familiare”.
L’Irish News conferma che la leadership UVF non garantirà alcuna protezione ai responsabili dell’omicidio.
