I believe in childhood best friends Sarah and Sam
I MADE FLAGS FOR LORIEN AND MOGADORE😋😋🤯🤯
(EXPLANATION)
Nine stripes to represent the 9 elders
Blue representing the color of Loralite
And I'm going to guess that the crescent moon is like super important to loric culture, because you lowk see it everywhere.
(EXPLANATION)
The flag of Mogadore is described in tfot as a black flag with a red Mogadorian symbol on it
And I think it's fair to assume that Mogadorian is logography just like Loric (1 symbol = 1 word) because it's compared to Chinese and ancient Egyptian in tfof
So I decided to just make one up. The red thing that kinda looks like loss is the mogadorian symbol for progress
In vexillogy it's kind of a big No-No to have words on your flag. but that's usually only for alphabets + simpler/simplified characters are usually given a pass (like the Japanese prefecture flags, which are considered some of the best flags in the world).
And it's a square because Square flags are fun😋

john and sam's friendship is for many reasons deeper than their respective relationships with sarah and six
☆ ☆ ☆
john and sarah: john is having a panic attack, he goes outside for some air. he calls sarah. yet he finds himself hiding his fear from her. it was stated as early as the first book, and is repeated now, that he doesn't want her to see "weakness" in him. he does open up somewhat, referencing the "things he's seen", but all in all, his reluctance to be vulnerable with her implies a lack of closeness or communication, aka a lack of emotional depth in their relationship (later he expresses that he's not good at talking about his feelings, and says the only person he ever could talk to about that was sarah. admittedly he does talk to her sometimes, but on the whole there is a theme of him hiding his vulnerability and fear from her)
☆ ☆ ☆
sam and six: six, due to trauma, is reluctant to have a relationship or let people in. she is also scared of failure due to distractions, and she sees sam as a distraction. sam was bullied a lot and generally has a fair amount of self doubt and insecurity. he is quick to jump to the conclusion that he is seen as dead weight.
john looks at sam and six and feels that sam is going to get his heart broken. he doesn't resent six or blame her, but he knows it when he sees them.
when six discovers that new york is under attack (and she is in mexico), her first thought is not of sam, who she says she "loves in her way", but of john, and then nine. not only that, she thinks of john and nine fighting the enemy, then thinks of sam. running for his life.
this shows that not only are john and nine, her fellow fighters, more present (and important?) to her, but she also, no matter how much she insists she sees him as her equal, only sees sam as running away. a liability. this demonstrates an imbalance in their relationship
meanwhile, in new york, not only is sam NOT running away, he is holding his own. he's fighting off the enemy with guns blazing, and even develops powers similar to six's. while she couldn’t possibly know this, it is interesting how her expectations contrast reality.
☆ ☆ ☆
finally, let's compare six/sam and john/sarah to john and sam
john is always hiding his vulnerability from sarah, whereas he "closes his eyes and trusts in sam" when he is about to pass out. john is so exhausted he is about to collapse, but he needs to be a symbol of hope for the survivors they have been collecting throughout the city. sam SEES john, sees his strength and sees how he is at his limit, and sam, who is almost collapsing as well, uses his telekinesis to prop JOHN up in front of the soldiers, so john can stand up straight.
while six underestimates sam, john trusts him to support him. while sarah does not get to see john's vulnerability, sam sees it clearly and is still so proud of him. sam says to daniela "however much we were holding up of the (collapsing) ceiling, john was holding up four times as much". he drags john out of the way and lets him rest. he says to daniela "you don't know him. there's no way he's resting in there." he knows john, sees him at his best and worst, and loves him.
(and finally. sam is the first person john told who he was. the first person he was drawn to, the first person he sought out. and they became friends and bonded before any of this alien stuff happened, whereas six and sam bonded during the chaos of battle. john and sarah had a similar relationship to sam and john in that they too bonded before she knew what he was. but she initially sought him out because her mom told her to welcome the new kid. not saying their relationship was not strong, it was, but there was a connection between john and sam that wins out against the others every time)
I just feel like an advanced alien bureaucracy shouldn't have had trouble evacuating people when they had 15 years of warning
Hc that John and Ella think exclusivity in concepts (rather than words or even images) because their telepathy has taught them to. I think everyone probably has a different signature when it comes to how they think and there’s a lot of variety in people’s thought processes so it’s easiest for them to communicate via concepts and that trains them to think that way all the time. Nine probably does this too to some extent because of his telepathy with animals, but I feel like he uses telepathy less frequently than John (John lives with BK it’s not hard) or Ella (love that girl but she’s got a tendency to…overstep)
This presents a problem when they have to translate those concepts into words. This leads to some pretty funny strings of words as they try to find the right ones. Sometimes they are straight up at a loss for words because they can’t find the right ones and there have even been miscommunications because they used odd wording.
And then throw being polyglots on top of that…
hey there, LL fandom!
first off i have been gone for a while, whoops, hello
second, i have been on a huge tabletop dev kick lately, and i am considering whipping up something for lorien legacies! i'm not sure yet how much of it would be its own system vs how much of it would be a supplement for an existing, larger game, but LL has some worldbuilding that i think would adapt really well to RPG format and i thought it'd be neat to give it a shot.
right now the main things i'm planning on adapting in some form are:
legacies, Of Course
charms
the Goop, especially augments and vatborn
chimæra
garde vs non-garde
species (where relevant and appropriate)
whatever is going on with the entity, the spark, and how they relate to different planets' alive-or-dead status
staying undercover vs strategically revealing information
establishing bases, resources, and backup vs being ready to make a clean getaway
guidelines for making/tweaking new legacies, charms, etc while keeping them balanced and fun, as well as leaving room for people to use their own interpretations of the worldbuilding
And So On
it might take me a while to get around to it, and it might turn into a Huge Complex Thing of Its Own, or might just be good for some flavoring and small mechanical twists added on to an existing game. but i think it'd be a lot of fun to work on, and if anyone has suggestions for systems you think it might work well with or other things from the books to adapt, feel free to weigh in!
