I like to think that a lot of the party escapades Secondo is implied to have had during his Papacy were his way to rebel against the clergy (not that he did not enjoy the music/dancing or being wanted and the distractions that come with a night out, mind you, but wasting their money seems like a great way to annoy Sister and he is calculated enough to create a specific image of himself that is associated with the papacy) and that he replaces those party nights in his later years (post retirement) in favour of going out with his lover, exploring the restaurants in the area, short weekend trips, sitting outside past sunset, sipping a drink during summer. I think he is a man of quality, every date would be special, and he probably knows more than one restaurant owner who caters to his specific wishes. He still loves going out but he exchanged the adrenaline rush for quality time, you know?
