Shy's eyes widened in surprise. How did he know about that? She was so careful with her research, and she'd been sure to cover her tracks. Or, so she thought. It was such a strange phenomenon; people who went missing, only to be found later, sometimes YEARS later, with the same story. It was too specific to be a shared hallucination, but if it wasn't, she couldn't explain it. And here was someone claiming to know.
"You know about the train?" Eyewitnesses and firsthand experiences were so hard to come by. Despite her heart hammering away in her chest and the mounting fear that this was a trap, it was the best lead she had.
"If you know anything about the train, I'm interested in hearing it...but, not here."
“Oh, definitely not here.” Simon agreed without hesitation, gaze flashing quickly behind him. A rush of fear that he wasn’t being quite as subtle as he’d wanted to be amplifying the trepidation he was feeling already. The whole thing felt remarkably shady. But how couldn’t it, considering the subject at hand?
Most people, with the notable exception of those who had lived it with him, would think he was out of his mind if he so much as mentioned the train. Which was simultaneously the reason why he wanted to speak with the one person who was taking it seriously, but also the reason why it scared him so much.
He’d moved out of his old hometown to get away from the constant attention, to stop being thought of as some kind of spectacle, because he had come back after years of being presumed dead. Years after the town had deemed his entire family to be cursed. And that was even without the knowledge of where, exactly, he had been for all that time. He couldn’t imagine how much worse it would’ve gotten if they knew.
But this young woman seemed to have a genuine interest in it. And if something good could come of that, to maybe even prevent it from happening to anyone else... he would assume that it was worth the risk.
“Where-ever you think we should go is fine by me. Lead the way.”
