Disaster in the Desert: The Assembly Saves Children, Ends Slave Auction
Hello, lovelies! Idanwyn Lluanswys here with another tale dedicated to untangling the corrupted web that garrotes much of our world. Shortly after the events mentioned in my previous article, dear readers, this intrepid reporter found herself once again intrigued by the Assembly’s duties. One of our own, Zeizei Zeloo, had been performing charitable acts for some of Ul’Dah’s many homeless children. Upon seeking them out to offer them a home at Reverie, she and another agent, Chinua Kha, heard a nearby commotion, and discovered the source to be one of the older orphans defending two younger ones against would-be kidnappers! Two of the Assembly’s more stalwart veterans, Dalla Warsong and Claire Lionarm, subdued one of the men, learning that he was working under orders, his family being held hostage. Yes, gentle readers, corruption still festers in Ul’Dah, but our agents do not further it; they released the man, who, hopefully, will remember such decency in the future when he is in need of gil. Fear not; the children were escorted back to Reverie in safety, where they remain. Those of us that pursued a fleeing Lalafell man with pockets heavy with riches learned that there was an “underground auction for servants” of sorts---an actual quote, and no mistake. Meeting up again, we deduced through what we and outside agents had gathered that this auction was to take place at a location called Larkscall; not deep in the Shroud, as some of you may be surmising, but rather a tavern within Ul’Dah’s twisting slums. One of the children---her name withheld out of common decency---had been taken, and was set to be sold as a “servant” at this malicious marketplace. This reporter held out hope that it could not possibly mean what she feared; but it did, dear readers, a type of servitude no child should ever have to enter, yet far too many do. Through a bit of quick thinking by Rohrah Qesmura and yours truly---aided by our Lalafell target’s unclean riches---we made our way into this Larkscall tavern, and found it brimming with the festering corruption one would like to think cleansed from such a great city. An outside agent created a great storm of chaos in the form of fire and swirling blades, and the rest of us slowly but surely made our way to the basement of the inn, where nothing good has surely ever happened until that moment. Unfortunately, lovely readers, at this point your faithful reporter was hit on the back of her skull with great force, knocking her flat and rendering her incapable of observing. I am told---and saw the proof, later---that the kidnapped child was rescued, and her captor summarily dispatched with great vengeance. She now is in recovery at Reverie with her friends, and free to enjoy the games and joy which all children should concern themselves with; not the bitter business that preceded her rescue. Once again, if you find yourself in need of our services, please contact any member of The Halcyon Assembly at any time. We are committed to providing all possible aid to just causes.
