Oh, you can totally have blizzards in France! Just set it in the Alps :)
M-sur-M is nearish the coast, and fairly northern, so I would guess the climate is close to Southern Britain and the Netherlands? Mostly it's about which time of the year is the worst, and how severe the weather gets, in my opinion. -5 Celsius can kill you just as well as -25, just add some rain and let it take longer time.
ETA: And I don't actually know if blizzards are likely there, though I can't imagine they're impossible. They've had blizzards down in Rome iirc
But France has (today) a varied, wide-ranging climate so heatwaves to snow are all good. I'm just the unfortunate combo of a bit too lazy to learn all the details, and a bit too nitpicky to ignore it completely...
