Acquiring the clothes had been easy. Securing the formal invitation that the guy had so carelessly kept in his coat’s pocket had been even easier. A quick bump, and a ‘I am so incredibly sorry, I wasn’t paying attention, is everything alright?’ had been enough distraction to make the invitation disappear from one pocket, and reappear in another. The disguise self spell did the rest. 

Pretending to be one of them, however, was significantly more difficult. The hatred was deeply rooted, and although he’d tried to keep interactions to a bare minimum, there was only so much avoiding Tommy could do without standing out as suspicious. So every time someone approached him, he surrendered himself to the conversation, but tried to keep it brief and move on as soon as he could. 

He’d just spotted a door that seemed promising, and was trying to work out a way to slip past the very subtle guards keeping an eye on it, when he was yet again subjected to a conversation he wanted no part of. It had been going on for far longer than he would’ve liked, too, and the rogue was slowly growing impatient. “To the people that take it, or the people that inherit it without knowing the value of it?” 

Stop. Biting his tongue, Tommy cleared his throat and reminded himself that he was one of them. “What I mean is.. If it belongs to the people that take it, what’s stopping a simple commoner from invading our space and taking it from us, eh?”

The allure of the woman who’d betrayed his trust and ultimately stolen his heart was too strong to fight against. Taking to a ritual that he was accustomed to during the war, Thomas even flipped a coin to help settle the matter. The blind, unwaveringly judgment-free token even told him that his future lie in the coal dust painted alleys of Small Heath. The innocuous coin was gripped tightly in his hand as he stood in the foreign, American streets, cursing his soft heart. 

It had been months since he’d seen Grace ; Thomas didn’t even write to tell her that he’d decided to come. Every time he lifted a pen, it felt as though any words the utensil would render could only lead to jinxing things. His heart hammered inside his chest as he looked up at the posh residence, knowing that it was the address of the blonde he sought. A voice in the back of his mind ( one that sounded remarkably like Polly ) told him what a mistake he was making and that he should leave while he still could. Instead, the gangster strode forward, his coat billowing in the wind, and knocked on the door.

      Elijah knows it’s her the MOMENT that he sets foot inside his apartment. He’s also not surprised that she found out exactly where his own apartment was and waited there rather than at the compound. The scent of her perfume has almost flooded the living room, and he crosses through to find her in the kitchen helping herself to a glass of wine. One brow lifts, and he leans his shoulder against the door frame as he watches her.

     “Katerina. Make yourself at home, please.”

     Despite the uncharacteristically frilly apron she wore over her haute couture minidress, she’d somehow managed to get bits of flour into her hair and all over her face and arms. Alexis was talented in many unexpected things; but the domestic duties of a potential housewife were not necessarily among them. The simplest of household chores eluded her and anything involving ingredients or kitchen appliances was no exception. She’d wanted to surprise him, thinking of how romantic and appropriately Pinterest it would be for him to return home after a long day of work to scrumptious pumpkin cookies in time for the upcoming fall festival being held in Schitt’s Creek. He’d told her it was tradition, that everyone always brought a plate or dish to share and she had nothing but store bought experience or the coddling of five-star chefs to pass off as her own in her arsenal. “Of course I’m going to be offended, I’ve been working on these all day!” She insisted, nudging the tray of cookies toward him with increasing threat of violence despite the unassuming oven mitt she wore. “People make cookies all the time Ted, I Googled the recipe.” She huffed, setting the cookie sheet down on the counter as she took off the mitt and tossed it aside. “How hard can it be? I use pumpkin and sugar and whatever else makes cookies into cookies. Baking them is just like following the rules of tanning.” She grabbed one herself and bit into it, pausing for a moment mid-chew as she stared thoughtfully up toward the ceiling, debating on spitting it out altogether.
