i headcanon that Jamie actually struggled with her sexuality for a long time. her older brother - and the rest of the town - calling her a slut and alike, made her not want to go near boys out of fear she would become like her mom. she was confused and uneducated on how sexuality works (this was the 70s, after all). so when she was teenager, she thought she was interested in girls because of her fear. she most definitely didn’t embrace her lesbianism until she left for London.
