P.S. There is only question? Where they took the lifecycle of a diesel - 182,000 km and a petrol car only-175,000 km on this scheme!? 

Have the authors of the study completely forgotten that there is a used car market, Eastern Europe and the Baltic States??? Get out of the offices of leasing companies and look what the real lifecycle mileage of used diesel and petrol cars are?? In Latvia by local used car market standards diesel with 182,000 km on odometer is almost “new”...  

Look on used market market! Audi A6 station wagon on sale in small town Talsi, Latvia: diesel 3.0 litres; First registration -01/2011; odometer - 403 625 km (252 282 miles), Price - 7000 EUR. Next one:   Skoda Octavia Elegance 2.0 TDI diesel 103kW, on odometer -  323 865 km (202,415 miles), price - 2900  EUR,   and so on, and so on...

Middle-class families getting priced out of new American cars

Americans were paying about 38% more for a new car or truck over the summer than they were just 10 years ago. The average transaction price for some popular vehicles is up nearly 50, 60 or even 70%. Many drivers can’t afford it. Tony Dokoupil reports.

My comment from European perspective: Most of them seem to me like old big "bathtubs on wheels" from the 1970's..., to large, to heavy, to expensive, incredibly poor mileage…. I will never buy American made gas-guzzler…., and reason is simple!  These cars are not "affordable" in Europe, too!
