#ice skating lessons

So, I’ve mentioned it a couple of times, but I started ice skating a few months ago and I was mostly teaching myself using youtube videos, and I made a lot of progress each time I went between like the 1st time and the 4th time, but I’ve gone 10 times and I feel like I’m sort of stuck now unless someone teaches me stuff, so I decided to check the website of the rink I skate at to see if I could take group lessons, and there’s an 8-week session that starts tomorrow, so I promptly signed myself up. And it’s run by an organization called Learn to Skate USA, so they have a specific curriculum. I was looking at the currriculum and laughing because i can do some of the stuff in level 1, but not all of it, and I can also do things that are in levels 2 and 3 because I was just teaching myself to do random stuff lol.

I just hope I’m not the only adult in the class. Watch there be like 10 kids between the ages of like 4-12 and then my mid-30s self. 😂

I had my first group ice skating class last night. I was one of three adults and it turns out the other woman in my group is also a secret fan of Yuri On Ice. I think I just about fell on her laughing when I heard. Now we’re friends and skate back and forth talking about YOI and life.

The fandom is alive and real and bringing people together.

Ice Skating Lessons || Jily

Lily was sitting on the window seat in the Head’s Lounge with her favorite book in her lap. She had wanted to just get away and be alone but it was too cold outside and read. She stared out over the grounds with a sigh. Unfortunately it wasn’t quite cold enough for the lake to freeze over yet. She wanted to skate. There was a small lake by her family home that her father had taught her and Petunia on. Skating reminded Lily of home and even she got a little homesick sometimes. So she had turned to her book to try and escape her own thoughts. She turned her head to look around the empty Lounge Room where she and James held Prefect meetings. She’d been avoiding said Head Boy ever since the party. She didn’t remember everything that happened. She’d been quite intoxicated. Something came back in flashes. She remembered kissing James once during Spin the Bottle and it was the reason she was avoiding him. Lily remembered how she had actually kind of liked the kiss. How it had made her feel warm and tingled her skin. She had chalked it up to drunkenness but she couldn’t get it out of her head. And it scared her to pieces. She’d spent so long disliking the boy. He had barely proved anything to her yet about growing up. What if he hadn’t? What if she let herself sort of like him and then he hurt her? What if he was all about chasing her but when he finally got her, he wasn’t interesting in her? What ifs tangled in her brain and she tried desperately to escape them. She winced as she moved her neck the wrong way, slight pain shooting up her neck from where Emma’s nails had punctured her skin. They hadn’t completely healed yet. That was another thing that had been bothering her. Lily sighed, turning back to her book in an attempt to block out all of her own thoughts and focus on the novel.
