Josh usually tried to give his sisters space when it came to their friends. Mostly because they had many friends and over half of them he didn't like. They were either too preppy or prissy for his own tastes, or perhaps they were just way too annoying. So normally when they came to him and told him that they were going to have a friend over for the night he began preparations to either stay at Chris's house or just lock himself away in his room for the night until they were gone.
Of course there were a couple exceptions to that rule. Sammy was one of them.
Sammy and his sisters went way back. Like...way way back. They'd met in first grade and have been friends ever since, and he could honestly say he was proud for the fact that his sisters had a longer lasting relationship with Sammy than he had with Chris. But Josh didn't meet Sam until 6th grade, a couple years after he was friends with Chris, so there was that.
But other than that, Josh made himself scarce. So when Beth came forward and told him she was inviting a friend over to spend the night, he began to make preparations, asking if he could go to Chris's. But with Chris it was always a hit or miss. Ever since his father died in the car accident in sixth grade, he'd been taking care of his ill mother and some days he could have people over, others he had to stay home and take care of her. But on days such as this, he tried to give her her space, so instead of Josh going over there, he agreed to go over and spend time with him while hey were locked away in his bedroom avoiding his sisters friend.
Which was good enough for him.
Chris came over earlier in the day with snacks and some new video games and a few movies -which of course they would sit there and pick on for hours. Maybe mute the tv and do bad lip readings like they normally did. So naturally when Hannah's and Beth's friend came over and monopolized the empty house, all Josh heard was the sound of feet coming up and down the stairs multiple times. When night fell and the house fell quiet, he took it as an opportunity to emerge from his bedroom and make his way downstairs, leaving his friend on his bed half asleep, playing idly with game apps on his phone.
The house was dark -a good sign the girls had either gone to bed or retreated to their room to do...whatever girls did when they had sleep overs. Pillow fights, mud wrestling, farting and giving each other dutch ovens -hey, girls were gross as hell too.
Making his way to the kitchen he pulled the fridge open to see some snacks their friend had brought over and bit his lip. Grabbing the container, he opened it and snuck his fingers inside, stealing a couple pieces of whatever it was and popped it into his mouth. It was good, but he was sure that whatever it was he wasn't supposed to be eating it. Beth would drop kick him if she caught him using his fingers to dig into the food -and he wouldn't mind.
Grabbing a baking dish covered with alluminum foil, he removed the top and put it on the counter. Grabbing a fork from the drawer he sat at the island in the center of the kitchen and picked at the baked beans in the glass casserole dish, stealing a long piece of bacon from the top. He should probably bring Chris up some food. Maybe. Last time he checked, his friend had dropped his phone on his face about seven or eight times -a clear sign he was passing the fuck out.
Maybe he'd just enjoy the quiet for now.
