You can't see me in the picture. I am sitting at the end of the ice-cave - in partial water and in total awe - wondering how this place came to be and lamenting that it will probably collapse in a couple of months. Sooner, says my guide. Easy for him to say, he will just find ten more such caves, while I have to savor the moment.

Travel advice: Rent a sturdy 4X4. These ice-caves form in Southern Iceland from October to March - but they aren't easy to find. You'll need to contact a professional guide to take you to one of these.
