My post for 2025's Shirou Day
It’s Shirou day! I’d like to make a post about Shirou even though he’s not one of my favorite characters, because he got me into Fate in the first place and has still influenced my tastes.
In 2019, I was sick of seeing blank slate and dislikable visual novel protagonists. When I heard about Emiya Shirou wanting to be a superhero, I was instantly enamored and decided to play FSN.
Shirou himself ended up fizzling out for me because he didn’t quite hit my taste, but the concept of him has embedded itself into my mind. I appreciate him for directly inspiring my other TM favorites, and another visual novel character I love.
I love Emiya Shirou for being the origin of Archer EMIYA who burned himself out on his ideal and needed salvation himself.
I love Emiya Shirou for letting Angra Mainyu experience an ordinary life and get the chance to save someone himself.
I love Emiya Shirou for inspiring Romani Archaman, my second favorite TM character, in regards to the conflict of “facing yourself”.
I love Emiya Shirou for inspiring Bazett Fraga McRemitz, my best Fate girl, for clinging to her idealism in helping others yet learning to live for herself.
Finally, I love Emiya Shirou for inspiring Ayane Ichijou from Full Metal Daemon Muramasa, a heroine of justice, who still strove for true justice even after learning that she was walking into hell.
Shirou is the most popular TM main character. There has been a lot of discourse on him, both good and bad, but that doesn’t change that he’s one of the most beloved and influential characters in fiction.
Thank you for being you, Emiya Shirou.
