A perfectly respectable amount, and yet it is dwarfed by the sheer destructive power of the cosmos. Depending on various factors, a supernova, the brilliant and explosive death of a massive star, can release anywhere from 35 to 2400 octillion megatons worth of devastation.
But just as death is not the end on Gaia, neither is the supernova solely the marker of the end. In fact, it is also a beginning. Once the violence settles, material created by the supernova will make its way back into the cycle, creating new stars.
