For anyone who missed it, I posted the draft notes/plot summary we had for the ICoS sequel - LINK: https://www.patreon.com/posts/icos-sequel-what-44700040
I explain it more where I posted it on my Patreon (don’t worry, it’s free) but I figured it was finally time to just share these notes I have so even though the sequel isn’t written (and it feels less and less likely it will be as time passes, but you never know) - at least you can get a little glimpse into some of our plans.
If you wondered things like who we had planned to reunite, some of the story arcs we wanted to do, some of the power dynamics, etc, you should go see!
It’s super draft mode and I had forgotten to put some things into it. I went into further detail on some of it over on the ICoS discord - LINK: https://discord.gg/9AM9AFs4TJ Feel free to swing by and check the agency channel for that info, and feel free to ask more stuff and/or comment/etc to your heart’s content.
Happy nearly-15th anniversary of the conception of ICoS! (first convo was December 31, 2005) Thanks for sticking around so long, too. You’re the real stars of it all <3
OKAY forget about vega sandwich, I just finished "1/27 an Icos anthology" and the question is: WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO HAVE ICOS CONTINUED ???? OH MY GOD, I NEED THIS AS I NEED AIR TO BREATHE!!!!!!!
hi! lmao about the vega sandwich. Every time it reminds me of the Ais’ Terrible Art I made about that - if you haven’t seen it:
and then the follow up I did lmao
It’s so fucking stupid but always makes me laugh thinking about this dumbass comic and them being like slices of bread and shit XD
(I couldn’t remember where they were on my tumblr so I just grabbed them from my site - which I haven’t updated in awhile. But if you want to see more terrible ICoS art it’s at http://aisylum.com/fun/ais-terrible-art/)
Anyway, back on topic XD Just in case you didn’t see earlier - I don’t have the sequel written but I did release the notes for what was planned so you can read that at least for now :) You can read it for free at:
is an icos sequel in the works?? i’m excited to read incarnations btw 💕
No, sadly, but I did release the notes we had from the sequel so you can still see what had been planned. Also you never know if I might one day suddenly decide to write it out - it’s just difficult since so many of the main characters aren’t mine.
Here’s the notes though! https://www.patreon.com/posts/icos-sequel-what-44700040 Don’t worry, you can read/see that for free.
Also thank you! If you read what’s out of Incarnations, I super want to hear thoughts! I’m having a hell of a time motivating myself to finish the current round of editing. It’s getting to the point where it’s pissing me off that I’m so slow because I just want to get it out there.
Was the planned sequel going to just be one full book? Or were there ideas about extending it over several books? Should 1/27 be seen the start of the new sequel or (if you guys ever do write more) should we consider it an extended epilogue to Fade? Would your titles still be related to light and darkness or was 1/27 meant to be a turning point and there would be a whole new series title?
Hi! :D I’m answering in order, hope you don’t mind! <3
So, it was technically supposed to be one book (Sonny was like, we aren’t doing a whole new series, and I was like BUT MAYBE WE WILL???? lol) but the amount of ideas we had for it may have made it a long book or possibly 2. Hard to say. We thought ICoS would be one book too, and look how that turned out, sooooo...... lol
I think the sequel was going to be set basically after 1/27 but I can’t remember if it might have referenced stuff from Fade too… so if we’d done it, 1/27 probably would’ve become required reading, or at least would help people not go ???? in the start of the sequel
We hadn’t talked about names too much, but I looked at my old notes and saw we did actually have a conversation about what it might be called. We were talking about trying to theme it similarly to how we themed ICoS - not by light and dark, though, because that was sort of the ICoS theme. We were talking about trying to find word(s) that represented the theme of overcoming things, trying to find order, maybe something philosophy-based, maybe more revolution-related, maybe something psychological… We hadn’t come to a conclusion. This was a conversation from April 2014. Rather ominously, although I didn’t realize it at that time, the conversation wasn’t finalized because we got distracted but I ended it by saying, “yeah – well, we have time.” Oh little Aislette. You don’t. You really don’t. You just think you do…
I’m not sure if we would’ve done ICoS as the whole series title or done a whole new series title. I feel like it could have gone either way, but I wouldn’t have been surprised if we’d done 1/27 as a shift into a new series title, more representative of the new storyline. Assuming it was multiple books. If we’d done just one book, it’s possible we may have continued to use the overarching name of ICoS.
This is super unhelpful to you guys but I skimmed parts of the plot ideas we had for the sequel and it would’ve been fun, man. What a shame! On the other hand, this means you don’t have to read some more fucked up shit we had planned lolololol we’re evil
(Don’t worry, btw…. if it becomes a thing years from now where it’s clear no sequel will ever happen, I’m sure eventually I’ll release the notes so you guys can see what we had planned)
Miss Ais can we still hope for the entire icos series to be released in paperback ? Is there still any hope at all for a icos sequel ? Thanks
Hi! ahaha Miss Ais idk why that sounds so adorable to me XD Thanks for making me smile <3
It’s definitely not off the table... we’d had the idea we’d be able to work on it in previous summers but then something always came up and it didn’t happen. We haven’t talked about it at all in awhile. But in the times we ever did mention it to each other, there was never a point at which we DIDN’T want it all available in paperback, and the sequel possibility is at the same level of possibility (in terms of our potential interest) as it was when we wrote the author’s note in 1/27.
So basically, there’s not any less of a chance of either of those happening despite the time that’s passed. It’s just that finding the time to do it ends up being more of a pain than expected. The more time that passes, I think Sonny gets a lot busier and I get a lot slower lol
But for what it’s worth, I still want to do both :) Any time I think about the possibility of a sequel, I continue to have lots of ideas for what I think would be fun to do. And I still think it would be fun to write out what we’d briefly sketched out back when we finished 1/27. It might be years before anything happens though, sadly, at this rate. I’m sorry I don’t have a better answer in terms of timeline or specific plans :(
Hey Ais, if you were to write a sequel to icos what would the synopsis/ main plot line be about? Can you write a book summary? On a completely unrelated note, does Boyd sometimes accidentally get cat called because of his androgyny? If he were, how would he react? Do you consider yourself a feminist? (P.S. I don't mind reading your long answers, so feel free to rant)
lol I love that you crammed so many questions into one ask XD That was impressive and made me laugh.
Also what's funny is really good answers for all of these would be super complicated... and probably take me forever to complete. The feminist question on its own is a longer answer for me so I'm going to split that one into a different post, and will screenshot your question so people know what it's related to.
For the others:
1) Ahhh I'm SO BAD at summaries, I really am! T_T To be honest, because we only have so much of the plot figured out, and because most likely things would change by the time we wrote it if we were to write a sequel, I feel like I can't really summarize anything because it would contain massive spoilers. So the best I can tell you is to go according to what the author's note says at the end of 1/27, which doesn't say a whole lot but is something we agreed we could say without spoiling anything at the time of writing it.
2) Yep, he has. Actually, after I read your question I remembered that there's even a scene like that in Julian Files. The way he would react would depend on his mood and also the point in his life at which it were to happen.
When he was younger, he was more likely to ignore it as best he could. If they were persistent, he would probably tip his head down, speed his steps, try to hide his face with his hair. Do everything he could to avoid interaction or confrontation. If it were to happen on his Forakis mission, he probably camped it up big time and played into it, wanting to fuck with the people (especially if they reacted negatively upon realizing he's a guy, because he'd see that as them being homophobic and even more reason to fuck with them). At that point he probably would have enjoyed the power reversal of him stealing back the control they thought they had.
Mid-Fade he'd probably be too impatient and annoyed to deal with them and would likely go back to ignoring them or dismissing them, but it wouldn't be because of his fear and self-consciousness of when he was younger, it'd be because he has no time for their BS.
And by the time it would be end of Fade or post-Fade, it would depend on his mood. He might ignore it at first just to continue on his way, and if they are persistent (or even if he just felt like it from the start) he'd probably confront them, make it clear he's a guy, tell them to knock it off, and if they react negatively to realizing he's a guy he'd probably say something along the lines of how they're idiots and why should that matter, and what, so that would make it okay to do if he were a woman? He'd probably tell them to leave people alone.
Also, I should note that if anywhere Fade or post-Fade he saw someone being pulled aside, or saw a guy being so persistent on someone else to the point that the victim was clearly getting afraid or uncomfortable, even if he was busy he would go over and force the guy to back off. Physically restraining or pushing the guy if he had to.
Seeing that invasive behavior would trigger anger in him from his Forakis mission and depending on when it happened in Fade's timeline or beyond, and the stability of his mood, he would get so angry he wouldn't be able to stop himself from interfering and making them back the fuck off, and making sure the person who was being harassed is okay.
If it was post-Fade he'd probably be calmer about it and not lose his cool, but early Fade it would be more possible for him to become aggressive or possibly even violent. But early Fade he also was very unstable so that violence could have swayed between aggression toward the person and a self-destructive way of interfering like bringing the violence on himself to protect the other person.
This reaction would be even worse if he saw someone being raped or sexually assaulted.
