Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (#idahotb). It’s a day intended to help us focus on promoting acceptance for LGBTQIA+ folks all over the world. I got an email this morning from GLAAD asking what I was doing to promote acceptance today. Though not today, but earlier this week, I decided to move this watercolor pride flag to a more visible place in my office. I’ve had it for a few years now, and it’s largely lived propped up on the bookshelf in my office. But now, the shelf is behind my door and not immediately visible from most vantage points. Now, my flag sits on a corner shelf on the first wall you see when you walk in. In plain sight of the door and the couch where my patients sit. A much more fitting home for a symbol that I hope helps my LGBTQ+ patients feel welcomed and seen in my space. And I figure my lion friend only adds a little extra pride to the shelf. #idahotb2018 #lgbtq🌈 #lgbtqia #lgbtpride (at Lauren Canonico, LCSW)
