Mechanicals! Mechanicals! Mechanicals!

It’s Archives Month and we’re celebrating #designarchives!

We recently uncovered a few artwork mechanicals for some of Pentagram’s Michael Bierut’s design work from his days at Vignelli Associates. Although this type of artwork preparation is relegated to history due to the magic of computers, we love preserving them and making them available to study long into the future!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Pantone Super Warm Red is often referred to as “Vignelli Red” and there are other Vignelli colors (definitely a Vignelli Yellow, and probably a Vignelli Green and even possibly a Vignelli Blue).

In honor of Valentine’s day, we’re asking is there a “Vignelli Pink?” Check out a bunch of pink artifacts from the archives and decide for yourself!

The iconic IDCNY sign in Long Island City. Once Center Three of NY’s International Design Center, this building is now part of a community college. Longtime plans to take the down he sign have so far been unrealized.

I've seen this building so many times going into NYC, and it was only recently I found out it used to be the "Thousand Window Bakery". Producing for Sunshine Biscuits, it was the largest bakery in the world up until the 1950s. And, as it turns out, my grandfather (who died before I was born) worked as a night shift baker there for years.
