Developing an unbeatable character
Self Concept
“We have a mental block inside us that stops us from earning more than we think we are worth. If we want to earn more in reality, we have to upgrade our self-concept.”- Brian Tracy
Overview
• In this video I will explain why you might feel out of alignment with yourself. While most people look externally to try to fix the problem, I suggest it is imperative to look inside, this is where you will find the cause of the frustration you might be feeling.
• The key to achieving success in all areas of your life is to have your self-esteem, ideal self and your self-image congruent with each other. Together these make up your self concept. If your ideal self doesn’t match up with your self-image, this is the reason you get a sense of not being at your best and you feel out of sorts. Your self-esteem is the bridge between your self-image and your ideal self.
• What is your self-esteem? It is a person’s overall sense of self-worth and how much they appreciate and value themselves. If you have a high amount of self-esteem you are confident and it helps you to be resilient to the challenges you face. On the opposite end of the scale if you have low self esteem you will struggle to cope with challenges and failures, which in turn can have a negative effect on you.
• What is your self image? Your self-image is how you see yourself in the present moment and is not necessarily based on reality. It has its basis on your thoughts and beliefs, which make up how you see yourself. Your self image is built up throughout your life and is constantly developing by the way you interpret situations.
• What is your ideal self? Your ideal self is how you would like to be. Highly successful people know who they are and the kind of the person they are striving to be in the future.
• In the video I have provided exercises for self-esteem, self-image and ideal self to strength each area and share my personal habits to help me keep my self image and ideal self in alignment. It is normal for there to be a gap between your self image and your ideal self, but the key is to close the gap between them
