Learned something interesting tonight. Was talking to a new cishet friend about SPN and our favorite ships. I mentioned Diestiel and she was like, “oh I see that but I don’t really do mlm ships because I can’t imagine myself anywhere in those relationships.” She then told me about a couple of m/f ships she likes, apparently she can see herself taking on the female role in those ships so she enjoys them more.
Honestly it NEVER occurred to my aro ass that people may pick their ships based on which romantic roles they can imagine themselves in other than the obvious OC or self insertion parts.
Seriously, when she said that it suddenly dawned on me that I pick ships based on 3 criteria in this order
1. Is it morally sound (no pedo, no incest, etc)
2. Which couples are prettiest together. And since I enjoy male beauty more than female beauty these parings usually end up being mlm
3. Is there an exciting/interesting dynamic between the characters.
Seriously, this is how I pick ships and honestly this is how I’ve picked boyfriends/dates in the past
1. Are they a ethical person
2. Are they pretty enough
3. Are they interesting
Honestly I never really realized this until tonight. It’s just one of those moments where your identity is really truly confirmed, ya know.
