Farah: “Rock Show” (2021)
It’s official: we have “Gay Boy 2021”. Eleven years ago, Farah was nerd-crushing for her gay fantasy over snap beats, dead-pan enthusiasm, and #1-ing all the stereotypical gay motifs with the charm of a nervous high-schooler. Now she’s partying it up in The Hills as the cutest hot-shit socialite groupie who just got carte-blanche for all-access general admission. Yet nothing much has changed from “Gay Boy” (’10) to the right now. Just like her first single, she hits all the targets on what comes to mind about ‘rock shows’: proper fan etiquette, wilding out, standing around all trendy, and going to after-parties in hopes to “get it on like spring time bunnies”. Yeah, she said it. Farah once again channels her vocal Aubrey Plaza with slow-tempo snap beats and minimal synth- / bass-lines which low-key emanate a dark and slick feel. With the Italians Do It Better label breaking lots of new artists and releasing new albums from their marquee acts, it’s nice to have Farah back.
