i keep seeing helmet discourse on my dash and as someone who commutes daily by bicycle in amsterdam my honest thoughts are “girl idk”

some people wear helmets on e-bikes and most people wear helmets on race bikes

we tend to have many separated bicycle zones and we learn to ride a bicycle from a very young age, i don’t remember ever being told to put a helmet on while riding my bike, i do remember my bicycle safety exam in elementary school, which means you need to practically and theoretically know and apply the bicycle safety rules and regulations

bicycles usually have right of way over cars and cars/scooters/faster vehicles are always the ones who get in trouble over bicycles during an accident

“why don’t europeans wear helmets?” some do

“why don’t dutch people wear helmets while cycling?” girl idk
