⋆.* ✭゚+.*.。⭒The Phoenix☽˚。⋆.。*゚*。✩
The Fenix brainrot is real rn so it's time to scream about him i guess:
The thing about Fenix that draws me to him so much is he's so similar to normal Aesop but at the same time he comes to such a different conclusion (and more on that later)
Fenix, like Aesop, faces a moral dilemma - how to give people salvation in the face of immense suffering. Aesop, of course, is groomed by a man with a god complex into thinking of killing as a mercy no matter how much people want to live. Fenix is manipulated by Samhain.....but not to the same level as Aesop with Jerry, as far as we see. Samhain lies to him and uses him - he also talks down to Fenix, seeming to expect obedience even after betraying him.
Fenix's initial choice is between sacrificing 100 villagers (people who were kind to him and who he wanted to protect) and fighting Samhain with the priests, sacrificing himself and likely many of their lives. His adoptive father, Hastur AKA the Grand Oracle, rejects the latter idea - he seems to be kind of unconcerned with the sacrifice (and biased about who he wants to sacrifice). Fenix would rather minimize the number of deaths and have those with power defend those without....a pretty noble position imo, which makes sense considering even as Aesop, he does genuinely want to help people and do them kindness.
Samhain offers Fenix a miraculous third option. Samhain wants to be summoned, and in return promises not to take revenge- in other words, as Fenix is convinced, no one has to die......except Fenix and the Saintess, as the Saintess will likely be killed by the ritual and Fenix may well be executed by the village for his betrayal.
Even then, Fenix pleads with the Oracle to work with him, to fight by his side, because he doesn't seem to completely trust Samhain. The plans are already in motion, but as Samhain says later, Fenix is still going behind his back to ally with the Oracle and avoid betraying everyone.
But the Oracle of course refuses and Fenix feels he has no other choice but to take Samhain's deal. He is betrayed, of course, and Samhain is condescending as he orders Fenix to kill his adoptive father. Fenix's choice is now save himself and follow Samhain and maybe grant the villagers quick and merciful deaths, or fight against him without knowing if anyone will help; where before Fenix had hoped the priests would fight together, he now faces the prospect of fighting alone.
But he chooses to fight. And the priests join him. They win, Fenix's own blood sealing Samhain away again....and Fenix is put to death for freeing the god in the first place.
He tells the narrator he had no regrets. He turned against a manipulative, superior figure and was punished for it, but he saved more people than if he hadn't acted and made a more reliable seal for Samhain. He died for it, but he had accepted that at the beginning.
And this...is Aesop. Or someone Aesop could have been, with a certain upbringing and circumstance. Aesop didn't make the choice to save lives or go against Jerry (he killed Jerry, sure, and the feelings surrounding that are a topic for another day but he was still acting according to the values Jerry instilled in him). What has me so drawn to Fenix is that he's kind of proof that Aesop has a good heart, under the trauma and grooming he's dealt with.
Just...yeah. Fenix is a really good character and I love him a lot sshdjsjdjsjs
This is my first time asking stuff, anyway have you ever met
Aesop as an Phoenix or the Exorcist? I hope u don't mind me asking by the way love your art
Exorcist is sort of cold but he still helped me out during a tough time which was nice! And for Phoenix, I was allowed to pet him in his bird form which was very cute and round like Brooke! He was absolutely warm too and it was surprising that his little fire on his head didn't burn me which I was thankful for. Please feel free to ask at your own comfort 💌
so is tea party [mike’s new s] x phoenix a ship people are shipping yet or
