Issue 58 is out, so I’ll jump right into it!
So while Tails, Amy, Silver, and Blaze join Sonic in the battle in Eggperial City, Tangle, Whisper, and Lanolin are stuck in a state where they’re still in the city but can’t be noticed by everyone else due to Eggman’s portal. Lanolin doesn’t take it too well and begins to blame herself for them ending up in this situation, but Tangle gives her a pep talk and makes her feel better. Whisper then confronts Tangle about her decision to name the team after her old team, and this is when things get... a little weird?
When Whisper says she’s the only one not trying to help everyone, I think what they were going for was her realizing that her leaving the Restoration to go chase down Mimic was pulling her away from protecting her friends from other threats, but she comes to the conclusion that she herself is a bad teammate and friend despite her working with them pretty well in the last issue and still trying to help Sonic and Tails fight Surge in the last arc, even during her search for Mimic. To me, it kinda feels like she’s apologizing for the wrong thing here, because she was still doing what she was doing to help everyone else and has been continuing to help everyone who has supported her, but the real issue that led Tangle to try to get closer to her upon them reuniting and accidentally overstepping a bit was Whisper purposefully distancing herself from her, so she should be apologizing for that and become more willing to tell Tangle what’s going on instead of apologizing for being a bad teammate. That’s why even though I liked the setup for this little development between the two of them, I can see why a lot of other readers haven’t been too happy about how it concluded.
After this though, Lanolin comes up with a plan to make the best of their situation, and Whisper suggests to follow through with said plan to get into the city’s control tower.
Meanwhile, Sonic and the gang are busy fighting while Tails does his science stuff, and he eventually figures out that the crystals used to power the city are actually artifical Chaos Emeralds...
...and then Team Dark shows up!
