I'm a simple person, I see a speculation? I dig.
I must warn you, AFAIK - and I can be wrong - the tv show should revolve around the time in which Aragorn is young. But there’s nothing certain. → EDIT: IT'S NOT AND IT'S PROBABLY SET IN THE SECOND AGE SO THIS THEORY IS TOTALLY VALID.
If you know me, you know I'm Tolkien Trash. I don't pretend to know everything, but for personal and fic purposes, I do research.
Now, Celebrimbor.
He's the son of Curufin, son of Fëanor, son of Finwë, aka the first King of the Noldor, aka the sovereign of the Noldorin Elves.
This makes Celebrimbor a prince.
He's a jewel smith, not a blacksmith, but, you know, I'm not picky.
He crafted the Elessar.
Now. If you don't know what the Elessar is, I won't be too disappointed. So what is it? It's also called the Stone of Eärendil (Light of Eärendil, ring a bell?) and it's a powerful emerald. So, the Elessar. It should be mounted on an eagle-like pin like this one:
In the movies it’s not shown, though many confuse it with the ring Aragorn wears (the ring of Barahir) or the Evenstar. Not true.
But. BUT. You know which name his people gave Aragorn?
DING DING DING KING ELESSAR!!
Yep. (And Gandalf knew).
Some say Celebrimbor loved Galadried (who you have to know, is Arwen’s Grandmother) and made her a less powerful Elessar.
Now, the Elessar, you know who gave it to Aragorn? Galadriel. You know what it means? It’s a gift from the bride’s family to the groom, basically foretelling Aragorn and Arwen’s wedding.
Celebrimbor became a Lord - something to do with the fact that he’s a prince but then they fled Valinor and I’m too hyped over what he did and who he is to go search history). He founded and was head of a gild, the Gwaith-i-Mírdain, aka elven craftsmen who were so bloody brilliant they were admired by the freaking Dwarves of Khazad-dûm (the famous bridge, y’all know which one) and helped building the Doors of Durin aka the “speak ‘friend’ and enter” doors!
He then was. as you saw from other posts, I assume, tricked by Sauron (who visited under a false identity) to forge 16 rings - 9 for the Men and 7 for the Dwarves, but he made and named the 3 elvish rings by himself. (The rings ultimately ended in the hands of Elrond, Galadriel and Gandalf, as you must know - but Cel sent only Nenya (water) to Galadriel, the other two to Gil-galad.)
Fast forward to the war between Elves and Sauron not the big war we see at the beginning of the movie when the Men are there, too and Isildur takes the ring.
Now comes the fun part for my lovely whumpers.
Cel gets captured and tortured so he’d have to reveal where the 16 rings were, but he never revealed where the three elvish rings were.
He died two years after he was captured because of the tortures - this I do not like )= - without kids to continue the line. Sigh. I’m sad.
But after his death, his body, covered with arrows, was hung upon a pole and then carried by Sauron’s army as a freaking banner as they attacked the Elves. My heart.
His name means “Silver fist” (and if you haven’t thought about a hook, you’re all liars).
First, I must link you to my old post about Colin being an Elf for Reasons™ in which I stated he must be a Noldor hehe
And now a few good illustrations so you get an idea:
