“If There’s No Tomorrow” by JLA ARC Review

Jennifer L. Armentrout always slays.

“If There’s No Tomorrow” is no exception.  Thanks so much to JLA and her team for the ARC of her newest book for me to review!  What a wild ride this book was, for me and for the characters within.

I would categorize this book as a deep (and sometimes dark) drama with some romance.  

I want to warn everybody out there with any kind of guilt-triggers or depression-triggers that this book may be difficult for you.  I’ve never dealt with guilt like this and can’t imagine depression like this, but I had to put down the book for a day to give my mind some space from it.  This is your official warning.

Lena Wise is our main character, who, after an accident, is left with survivor’s guilt.  She buries herself in her guilt, pushing away her family and friends.  It takes her a while to come to terms with what happened and to learn from her mistakes.  It’s so real and tangible, which is how I believe that mental illnesses and issues should be dealt with.  Lena is such a strong character that you can’t help but love her and want to protect her.  But like everyone has to, Lena has to shed her naivete for the chance to move forward.  It’s such a powerful message that it brought me to tears...several times.

With all of these heavy issues surrounding Lena, she also has a love interest in the form of her childhood best friend.  In the grand scheme of things, I didn’t think a love interest was necessarily needed, but I enjoyed it all the same.  For a while, I thought the love interest was just kinda floating around the book with no purpose other than to be a love interest.  While I suppose this could be true, he has his own character arc and issues to deal with.  I went back and forth for a while, wondering if I really liked him or not.  Eventually though, I ended up really loving him.  What won me over was that he was there for Lena during her “quiet period.”  She was so depressed she could barely do anything, because she just didn’t care anymore.  He realized how much she was hurting and wouldn’t leave her side.  Le sigh.  If only we all had people like this in our lives....really, we all just need JLA’s male characters to come to life to love us. Haha!

“If There’s No Tomorrow” is another amazing read to stack up on your ever-growing Jennifer L. Armentrout book shelf.  It’s an essential for every fan of fiction books, and anyone that is looking for a way to move on.  It’s inspiring and phenomenal.  It’s JLA.
