In 2010, the General Assembly of the United Nations began encouraging governments worldwide to begin combating trafficking through their General Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons. While the slave trade is not the industrial behemoth it once was, 21 million people in the world today remain enslaved, and human trafficking affects every country in the world. Organizations like Anti-Slavery International have not forgotten this. They have been working since 1839 to end slavery in all its forms across the globe. Today you can express your support and belief in the value of these 21 million lives with #igivehope, or become involved with Anti-Slavery International or the Not for Sale campaign.
