How Does an Ignition Spark Plug Work?
An ignition spark plug is a small device for introducing electrical current to a combustion chamber via an electrical spark from an ignitor, usually a tungsten disc which is made of tungsten and will burn with sufficient heat to cause the surrounding air to ignite. Ignition spark plugs also known as plug-in spark plugs, are available in different voltage/voltage combinations. Ignition spark plugs are commonly used for boats and automobiles with diesel engines, as they are commonly used as engine coolant. They have the advantage over other conventional coolant coolers in that they allow a very quick and efficient cooling of the engine, by instantly drawing away all of the heat generated during normal engine operation. With the help of this type of system, you can expect your boat to accelerate and function normally, right from the first day you use it.
The ignition spark plug draws the air/fuel mixture to the point where it begins a chemical reaction that creates a flame front. The chemical reaction creates heat, which melts the metal surface of the piston and cylinder and causes the piston rod to lift up and move out of the combustion chamber. The speed at which the piston moves out of the chamber depends on how much fuel is present in the fuel mixture that is combusting.
Once the piston has moved out of the combustion chamber, the exhaust flue gases and gasses that had been formed as a result of the flame front are expelled. This exhaust system also acts as a backfeed by delivering gasses to the air cleaner, which is located close to the point of combustion. After the piston has exited the chamber, the compression on the cylinder walls causes the air to be compressed, increasing the pressure inside the combustion chamber. This increased pressure is sufficient to force the air and fuel mixture out through the exhaust port. Once the air exhaust port is open, the ignition spark plug opens, allowing the fuel mixture to enter the converter and carburetor.

Does the Spark Plug Create the Spark
The question, "Does the spark plug create the ignition spark?" is a very common one to have after changing a worn-out plug or after installing a new plug but how do we know which one? A plugged up or damaged plug will not create an ignition but if you have the ability to see a black smoke odor coming from your vehicle this is most likely the case. It is highly suggested you have the vehicle inspected by a professional before attempting to repair your own ignition spark plug
You should also know that the vehicle codes will vary between vehicles so it is best to have the vehicle checked by someone qualified as they will be able to determine which type of plug your vehicle has. There are three different codes for plug wires so once you identify yours it is a simple matter of finding the corresponding fuse and removing it in order to replace the plug. Once you have replaced the plug, it will be time to run the vehicle's engine for a few minutes to see if the vehicle starts. Once again if there is no fire then the wires may be faulty and need to be replaced.
A faulty or bad plug may be caused by a number of factors but usually include losing factory warranty, improper installation, poor wiring, loose bolts or screws and even worn out spark plugs. One of the easiest ways to tell if your vehicle requires a replacement is if you hear a popping or crackling when you first start the engine; this is usually an indication that the plug needs to be replaced. If you notice the vehicle makes noise when starting or when cold then you will most likely need a new plug. With the correct plug in place and your vehicle on a flat or incline the spark should be lighting easily and the carburetor should be working efficiently.
