I went in to uni at 10 this morning, ‘cause I’m conscientious and stuff. I spent far too much of my day watching Miley Cyrus music videos (for research, honest), before I went along to a laser cutting induction - one of the toys hidden in the Eldon building here. It was part 1 of 2, and was the less exciting part - learning what programme to use on PC and how to set it up before sending it along to be cut. That bit comes soon (I just have to book a slot), so hopefully I’ll have something cool to show on here.

N.B. The format that I chose to write the date in for each blog entry has been irritating me for ages, so I’ve decided to change it. This in turn has irritated me, because I like continuity; I don’t know what to do.

P.S. N.B. stands for ‘nota bene’ the Latin for ‘note for Ben’, or ‘note well’, depending on who you believe.

P.P.S. P.S. stands for ‘post script’, taken from the Latin (again) postscriptum.

Meatcake Compilation by Dame Darcy

1. Storm Pagan

2. In this comic book there are maybe 100 short stories of weird creatures that overcome a particular situation. I witnessed she uses some of the same characters in different stories. All of the mermaids in each story are naked. There are a lot of creatures with two heads. Most of the time the stories really did not make sense.

3. Darcy used her own work to create the characters. She used a pen it is all black and white. It reminds me of an old fashion comic book, because that is how it is drawn. The images are very realistic, distorted, tight, crude/sketchy, and heavy. The lines in the sketches are faint. Darcy is very artistic with her lines in the hair and details. The texture in her sketches are very unique u can tell exactly what she is drawing. The time frame she always uses is from the 1800's.

4. Darcy’s intention in drawing/making this comic is to show a different way of how people are viewed; as in different creatures. She keeps her readers interested. There is always a weird, un-thought of ending. Her ideas are beyond what a normal state of mind would think of. She has a huge imagination. The truth about her work is that people do in fact act crazy; like in her mini stories. Darcy pushes many boundaries with what is inappropriate and appropriate. There is a lot of nudity malicious behavior. Darcy explores gender and identity with individuals that have two heads when you don’t know whether to call the person a he or she, or even an “it”. There is also homosexuality involved in her comic book. Dame’s book is filled with never before seen/heard of short stories. They are out of this world weird. After reading the first couple of stories you get hooked.

5. The biggest strengths in this novel are that there is not just one story, but multiple stories in the whole book. It kept me interested the whole entire time. When I was done reading one short story I was excited to start the next. I have read many books and nothing is like Meatcake Compilation. It stands out because of the characters are unique and disturbing. The stories are so different and weird from anything I have ever read because they have really crazy story lines. The style does not synchronize well with the plot/meaning of the whole novel. Every story has been completely different from the next. The endings of each short story are what drew me in because they are funny and nonrealistic. My first reaction was that this book is insane. I thought it was really weird; the story line to each comic. The transition from convo to convo was very understanding. The layout where the words are located is nice because you can tell which to read first. The order was very good. After reading you start to believe the stories because you get so involved in them. Her facial expressions on each character are absolute to that specific character’s feelings.

6. The weaknesses I found in this novel were that there are many spelling errors in her dialogues. Another weakness Darcy had was the coloring and texture of her drawings. Sometimes I couldn’t tell what objects were in the novel. I would have written very carefully and slowly for the words, so there were no mistakes in spelling. For the drawings I would have gave more detail to them to make sure my readers would know exactly what objects were, even though the drawings are significant as they are. After reading this book it has changed my perception on all books because there are so many different kinds in the world. I need to expand my horizons with my book choices.

7. I would recommend this book to all people, male and female, ages 15 and up. I do not believe this book is appropriate for teens younger than 15 years young. I would not pass this book on to any young individuals of my family. I know my mom would love it as well as my dad. I think young children would not understand half the stuff going on in this book. It is very mature and has a lot of adult content not made for younglings. I would hesitate giving this book to my close friends I do not think they would like it as much as others. The book did make me uncomfortable some parts, but it was mostly humorous. The book has increased my interest about my own life because it made me think about how it would be if we looked and spoke like the characters in her novel.

8. Darcy Dame has also written a numerous amount of books also known as Gasoline, Paperdoll, E.Z. Bake Coven, and Jane Eyre.

9. I would give Darcy Dame a 4/5 for her novel Meatcake Compilation.
