I'm well aware of AM's hatred for humanity in IHNMAIMS. It's his core character trait. However, I thought of another way he could inflict that upon the cast: favoritism.
In the game, AM tells Ellen(paraphrased), "I could rat you out, sweetheart. But I'll give you a chance! I like you. Really, I do! You're my favorite, Ellen." It was 100% in bad faith and a form of mockery, but that doesn't change the fact that he said it. Ted seems to have a feeling of superiority when he thinks AM favors him. Therefore, who's to say AM's not telling others the same thing or publicly claiming a favorite sometimes?
What do I think being called AM's "favorite" means? I think if AM were to do this, it would be with the intent to break up the group and cause in-fighting. After 109 years of torture, most people are most likely desperate to feel special or normal, which AM could exploit. By naming a favorite, he gives them a sliver of hope that he can later crush. However, he also would be painting a massive target on their back. Some survivors might take it as AM saying, "You're all insignificant and deserve my hatred, but THIS one is better than you, and I like them the best." Does it matter if AM actually means it? Of course not! He probably doesn't. But I think the result is the same. Tension, suspicion, or even envy that leads to conflict or fights, proving to AM that his hatred is correct. After all, these humans will fight tooth and nail over something so small and insignificant as a kind word from the being inflicting this torture on them!
Is this mischaracterization? Honestly, probably. However, I just wanted to throw this concept out into the world.
