It’s In Your Eyes (2/?)
Title: It’s In Your Eyes (2/?) Rating: NC 17 for later chapters Summary: Phil doesn’t know how but he is certain he knows the cute new barista at his favorite coffee shop even if he acts like he doesn’t know him
(Part 1) (Part 3)
Phil buried his face into Dan’s shoulder, pulling him closer against his chest and leaving small kisses along his pretty neck. Dan hummed, content, and leaned back against Phil, running his fingers slowly down his arm to play absentmindedly with his fingers.
“I hope you know how much men pay to touch my neck let alone kiss it.”
Phil knew Dan was teasing him, he has always played hard to get and maybe this was the reason Phil was so attracted to him anyways. The first time Phil slowly shuffled into the house of the courtesans and requested Dan he was made to wait for two and a half hours before Dan walked into the room he was waiting in. Phil remembers how his heart hammered in his chest from how beautiful Dan looked, his dark grey clothes hugged every inch of his body but what Phil remembers most is that face of confidence. It was almost as if Dan was looking down on him and this was something that has never happened before. Phil was an only son to a wealthy doctor which meant he was the only heir to his family’s fortune and his family was well known even in the surrounding towns. Most of the pretty rich girls “shyly” waved at him and men three times his senior regarded him with the upmost respect, but here was this common courtesan, looking down on him like he was just another low working class man.
“I heard you requested me specifically.”
Phil swallows hard, suddenly feeling very nervous, “Y-yes, I did.”
Dan smiled sweetly, slowly making his way over to sit so close to Phil their legs brushed against each other. “Well then, how sweet of you. What shall I call you?”
In hindsight Phil probably should have said his family name or at least included some title but he found himself speaking not only his name but a nickname, “Phil.”
Dan’s brown eyes seemed to shine with mirth but Phil could only get lost in the specks of shimmering gold. “Well then, it is nice to meet you Phil.”
Phil raises a hand to gently touch Dan’s face but it was easily slapped away as Dan stood up, glancing over his shoulder with an almost bored expression, “The others want to play another round of cards, I will be back once it is over.”
He turned away and walked out of the room and didn’t come back for another hour. Phil sighed, running his hand through his hair and only feeling the passion he felt burn hotter. He shouldn’t be feeling this way towards a courtesan, one of the lowest classes in society, but he just couldn’t help it. Every time he closed his eyes all he could think about was Dan’s beautiful face and those complex eyes which hid more than shimmers of gold. Dan had to conceal a smile when he walked back into the room, seeing that Phil was still laying there.
“You’re still here?”
Phil bolted upright, actually feeling amazed that Dan came back so soon, “Of course…I would wait forever for you.”
Dan bit his bottom lip, hiding his mouth behind a beautiful, soft hand, “Don’t make promises you can’t keep Phil.”
Phil stood up quickly, walking over to wrap his arms around Dan and pull him closer to him, looking directly into his eyes. “I promise you that I’m not.”
Dan couldn’t even bring it in him to warn Phil against the extra charges, maybe he would let this one man off just this once.
Phil was jolted awake by someone roughly shaking him awake and his first instinct was to attack whoever was in his room but he was able to hold back just in time to realize that it was Chris. “What the hell man?”
Chris sighed and stepped back, “Believe me, I have a lot of better things to do than to wake your ass up but you are seriously going to be late for class.”
Phil looked at his alarm and realized he only had 10 minutes until his class started, “Shit!”
He jumped out of the bed and roughly pulled out the first shirt and pair of jeans that smelt clean enough to clumsily pull them on while almost tripping as he ran out of the door. Chris stepped away from the doorway to avoid being knocked over but didn’t bother to hide his sigh of annoyance.
“None of this would happen if you would just not take morning classes!”
Phil grumbled some sort of smart comment back but it was impossible for Chris to understand him with a mouth full of toothpaste so he just threw his hands up before walking back to his room instead of continuing their ‘discussion’. Phil ran out of his bathroom and pulled on his shoes and coat before running out of the door. Chris walked out for water and sighed when he realized Phil’s bag was sitting on the couch, seriously how has this guy ever lived without him? He walked over and picked up the bag, moving to the door and holding it out until the door was thrown open by a very winded Phil. He handed out the bag and rolled his eyes at the bright smile he was awarded with.
“Thanks Chris! You’re the best!”
Chris rolled his eyes, waving Phil off and muttering ‘yea, yea’ under his breath as the door closed nosily behind him.
Phil wasn’t quite sure how he was able to get to his class on time but he ended up running into the large lecture hall with three minutes to spare which gave him plenty of time to settle into a nice seat and get out his laptop. He sighed happily, leaning back in his chair to catch his breath and to allow the panic to leave his body from almost being late. His thoughts began to wander back to his dream, he knew that he had one he just couldn’t really put his finger on what exactly happened. He sighed heavily, leaning forward and trying his hardest to remember but then his professor was starting his (very) boring lecture so he had no choice but to try and push his dream out of his thoughts so he could attempt to listen to that monotone voice drone on for two hours.
Phil somehow survived, although he wasn’t too sure how he was able too, and decided to make his way back to the coffee shop, happily forgetting about the vague dream he had before. He pushed his way into the coffee shop and frowned when he noticed a young couple sitting in his regular spot which was a big letdown considering the dark clouds looked like they would produce a heavy rain anytime soon. Grumbling, Phil decided to pick the window seat on the opposite side of the main room, the view wasn’t nearly as nice as his favorite spot but at least it was a view of the outdoors none the less. He placed his bag down in the seat across from where he would be sitting and threw his coat over it before walking up to the counter. He was trying to decide if he wanted to switch things up or not when that same barista from before stepped up to the cash register with crossed arms.
“Are you going to order something sir or are you just going to stare at me all day?”
Phil flushed a bright pink, he couldn’t believe he made himself look stupid in front of Dan, again. “Oh, right. Shit, sorry. Uhh I’ll have a caramel macchiato.”
Dan nodded and punched a few keys on the cash register, “That is a good choice.”
Phil found himself attracted to Dan’s voice, his voice for god’s sake and Phil was certain that wasn’t actually a thing. How could every single thing about Dan just be so…. perfect? This was getting out of control and Phil seriously considering maybe he was going crazy.
“Yeah…I enjoy them.”
Dan smiled up at Phil and Phil was certain he never saw anything quite as beautiful as the way Dan’s eyes crinkled and how prominent those deep dimples became. “That’d be 3 quid.”
Phil stared at Dan a few extra moments before jumping, realizing he was staring again, and pulled out his wallet to quickly pull out some money and quickly hand it over to Dan before he could embarrass himself further. Dan only chuckled softly, putting the money into the register and handing Phil his change before turning around to quickly make his drink. Phil felt like such a pervert because he couldn’t stop how his eyes slowly slid down Dan’s body again. He couldn’t help himself, all of Dan’s clothes just seemed to fit him so well in all of the right spots. Phil bit his bottom lip, finding his eyes resting on Dan’s ass a bit too long but he couldn’t help but feel the familiar burn of arousal light up his body which was ridiculous, he was an adult for god’s sake yet here he was getting turned on like some teenager. Dan turned around and rose an eyebrow at Phil when he quickly adverted his gaze, not hiding how he had been checking Dan out very well but then again, he had always been pretty bad at concealing his emotions.
Dan chuckled, writing something on Phil’s cup before handing it over with a wink, “Jesus, if you wanted my number that bad all you had to do was ask.”
Phil felt like he couldn’t breathe, he quickly took the cup from Dan to inspect it and sure enough there were those black digits that apparently formulated Dan’s phone number. He looked up, not being able to form words, he was caught in between thanking Dan and saying he was totally not internally praying he was going to get his number sometime soon.
Dan beat him to it, smiling a bit too sweetly, “Call me later, now get out of line because there are a lot of lovely people behind you who really want their coffee.”
Phil quickly looked behind him to notice quite a considerable line forming behind him and his face darkened if that was possible. He murmured a sorry before shuffling out of line and quickly making it over to his laptop to hide behind it, wishing the ground would open up and swallow him whole. It only took a few minutes for Phil to peer over his laptop at Dan, watching him work quickly to push out even the most complicated coffee orders with speed and precision and Phil couldn’t help but feel impressed. He wasn’t nearly as graceful at his job, always stumbling over his words and he would need a few sets of hands to count the number of times he has accidently sent someone to the wrong isle for acrylic paints. His eyes slid over to his white cup, swallowing thickly at the numbers written in neat handwriting next to his name ‘Phil’. He chewed on his lip, wondering if he looked too desperate if he texted Dan now to make sure he also had his number but he ultimately decided to just do it because he probably already seemed extremely desperate to Dan anyways. He sighed heavily, rubbing his face and seriously considering asking Chris for help on concealing his emotions because this was seriously getting out of control. He picked up his phone and texted a simple message to Dan that he erased 11 times and tried to think of better words. He wasted thirty minutes (literally 30 minutes) to come up with a simple text of his name and where they met. He ran his hands through his hair roughly because he was seriously an idiot.
Phil’s homework laid forgotten around him because he was much more interested in glancing up at Dan every few minutes to see if maybe he has checked his phone. After an hour he groaned and let his head fall roughly onto the table because this was getting ridiculous, of course Dan wasn’t going to check his phone because he was at work. He swallowed hard and looked at his phone and realized it was his turn to cook dinner. He sighed and started packing up, trying his hardest to not look at Dan until he was about to walk out of the warm coffee shop to the damp and chilly outside. He looked back once, his eyes catching Dan’s instantly and his heart fluttered from that sweet smile and little wave. Phil felt a smile spread across his face before he could stop it and waved once before forcing himself to walk through the doors and back to his apartment.
“Ok Phil, spill. What on earth is going on?” PJ paused the race him and Chris were in to look at Phil who was currently sitting on the love seat staring intently at his phone.
He jumped at looked at his two friends and swallowed hard, “Uhh, it is nothing.”
“Bullshit it is nothing,” Chris snorted, pointing at Phil’s phone, “You’ve been staring at that thing for the past hour like the bloody dean is about to call you.”
Phil flushed, coughing awkwardly and tugging on the collar of his shirt, “Well, uh… I might have gotten someone’s phone number.”
PJ and Chris were by his side in an instant, “Wait are you joking?”
“Seriously Phil?! What’s her name? Tell us everything!”
Phil sighed heavily, not really wanting to get into this with them but honestly it would have happened eventually, “It isn’t a she but a he.”
Chris suddenly jumped up and clapped his hands loudly, pointing at Phil and causing both him and PJ to jump, “It is that new barista isn’t it?!”
Phil swallowed and looked down which only confirmed Chris’s suspicion and caused him to let out a laugh, “Oh god Peej, you should have seen him! He was all heart eyes for the new barista at that coffee shop he always goes to.”
“I was not!” Phil denies quickly.
Chris rolled his eyes, waving his hand in a dismissive manner, “Yea right Romeo. So you finally asked for his number?”
Phil sighed, “He uh, kind of gave it to me.”
PJ smiled brightly, “Seriously?! That is great Phil!”
Chris snorted, “Couldn’t hide staring at his ass anymore could you?”
Phil glared hard at his friend, only because he was so right, “Shut up both of you.”
PJ stretched and moved to turn off the game console and the TV, “Well I am just happy you are finally getting some sort of action. I was worried you were going to swear off all relationships after… well you know what I mean.”
Chris scratched his head, glaring at PJ for bringing up Phil’s ex. Phil hasn’t dated anyone since and that was almost a year ago, it had been a very bad and very messy break up that left Phil completely heart broken. He refused to go to any sort of date his friends set up for him and also refused to even try to find a new relationship.
They were both worried that Phil would become depressed but he only sighed, “That is ridiculous PJ.”
Phil stood up and walked into his room, rubbing his face before sitting down on his bed, wondering if maybe Dan gave him a fake phone number or maybe he just never had the intention to actually message Phil. If he was being honest he felt pretty sad thinking about it, he honestly felt something with Dan that seemed so much bigger than himself and he honestly never put much through into things like this before. However, he somehow felt like he was drawn to Dan, almost as if they were meant to be together or at least to meet. He sighed and put his pillow over his face, trying to get all of these ideas out of his head because it sounded so cheesy and so unlike him even though his ex used to say he was always a hopeless romantic.
Phil was close to falling asleep when he felt a familiar buzz and for a second he was wondering what on earth it was. Once he realized it was his phone he quickly threw the pillow away from his face to unlock his phone and read the message Dan sent him.
‘You seem pretty cute; we should meet up at my place tomorrow after my shift. I get out at 8 so meet me at the coffee shop then.’
Phil couldn’t stop the wide smile that spread across his face even after he quickly texted back affirmation to Dan that he wouldn’t miss it for the world. Dan didn’t send him another text but he didn’t have to, Phil was already falling back onto his bed, feeling like he was flying. How could he feel so happy from a promised date with a boy he didn’t even know? He had no idea but all he knew was he couldn’t wait until he could learn everything there was to know about Dan.
