How is this for true devotion?
Dear, I’ll give you all
I’ll give you all
Who do you need me to be?
I’ll be someone
I’ll be someone for you
How is this for honesty?
I need to hear
I need to hear it now
Who do you need me to be?
I’ll be someone
I’ll be someone for you
Because lovepullmedown-hateliftmeup said to ask all the things, so I did, but never offered anything in return. Not that I had to. I don't usually reblog ask games (ask me anything at any time at all and I'll answer!), but I'm gonna do a one-time thing and answer... some of these. As many as I can. Apologies, most of 2014 is a blur. Most of my life is deemed not important enough to remember by my brain, and time is certainly one of those things. Seriously, I'm the worst at dealing with anything to do with time. Or doors. Those two things.
1:Describe your year in one word
2:Describe your year in three words
3:Describe your year in one sentence
Developments.
So many developments.
Everything happened, and nothing was the same.
4:Describe your year with song lyrics
5:Describe your year with a quote/quotes
Not sure, but I'll try for two in one. Lyrics are quotes, right? Eh.
"Immediately, I feel release from dragging this vessel around."
--Circa Survive, "Schema"
This is the only thing that comes to mind right now. I've been carrying a lot of burdens, and some of them have lightened up. I'm saying that after going through this Semester From Hell, so my perspective is a little different, and it feels like I'm reducing 2014 to just those three months. But I also grew quite a bit from this and more. Before 2014, ijsw still hated me. Before 2014, I still had way too many personalities in my head, and way too many Twitter accounts. Before 2014, my life summed up to maintaining a 4.0 in college and working towards a degree I didn't really care for. 2014 was confusing and a big change and it was chaotic, but ambivalently so.
6:Best memories from 2014?
7:Worst memories from 2014?
Best: seeing Balance and Composure, seeing Brand New, seeing Anberlin three times. Especially Anberlin. That entire nine days in Florida was pretty blissful, like a calm that punctuated the worst time of my life. Which, I'm going to go ahead and say that everything immediately after this Thanksgiving break was the worst memories. The feelings of inadequacy, failure, burnout, existential crisis, panicked epiphany, realization that I couldn't do anything about my lot in life, and I just had to get over it? Never again.
8:Biggest surprise in 2014?
I'm still kind of surprised that ijsw followed me again on Twitter this April. I was at Barnes and Noble with Sudhi and my phone lit up and I wasn't really expecting that then. To be fair, I wasn't expecting it ever. (Honorable mention goes to my mom agreeing to let me go on a road trip with a bunch of internet friends, that's kinda noteworthy.)
9:If you could change one thing about the past year what would it be?
STUDY FOR THE CLEP TEST IN BIOLOGY OVER THE SUMMER. NOT DURING A 22-HOUR SEMESTER. NOPE. NOPE NOPE NOPE. ALSO STUDY THE MATERIAL FROM CLASSES EVEN IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW IT. BUT MOSTLY DON'T TAKE A THREE WEEK BREAK TO TEACH YOURSELF A YEAR'S WORTH OF BIOLOGY FROM A 1264 PAGE TEXTBOOK. 0/10 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
10:If you could relive one day from 2014, which day would you choose and why?
probably one of the anberlin concerts. Not sure which one.
11:What's the strangest thing that happened to you in 2014?
I could list any one thing, but stranger things have happened all the time throughout my life, and I can't pick just one thing. My entire life is strange.
12:If you got the chance to relive this year would you do it?
No, it already happened and I've got the memories. I'd relive Anberlin, but not the rest of the year. It was too uneventful / nightmarish.
13:Describe your year with pictures/drawings
[probably in that order]
14:Who were the most meaningful people in your life this past year?
Anyone I interacted with. I don't interact with a lot of people. If I talked to/with you, you're cool.
15:Did any major life changes happen to you in the past year?
Have you been paying attention to this post? Becoming 20, I guess, symbolically. Consolidating all my Twitter accounts. The death or disappearance of mastermind777. New friends, old friends becoming new friends, actually doing things with some of those friends, seeing my first-ever concerts, Hell Semester, et cetera.
16:Who's the coolest person you met in 2014?
jkellemnop. I suppose if you count talking 15 seconds to someone as meeting, then Jon Simmons, Stephen Christian, Christian McAlhaney. Yeah, I met them. I'll go with the easier answer and say Elle, though.
17:Any regrets concerning the past year?
See #9. Also, maybe losing my USB bracelet at House of Blues Orlando? It was a cool bracelet, and that was a 32GB USB and I don't even remember what was on it. School stuff, maybe.
18:What is the most memorable thing that happened to you in 2014?
Anberlin x3
19:Would you say you had a good year?
Sure, right up until this last semester. And of course punctuated the worse parts with concerts sporadically.
20:What's the greatest achievement you made this year?
I'm gonna say teaching myself biology in three weeks ON TOP of taking 22 hours + volunteering + applying to the Clinton Global Initiative. I survived! And I made 7 A's this semester, even if I made a B / C / D. Once more, I say, NEVER AGAIN. Also, I got this quite recently, so it paid off.
Pretty damn proud of myself, no matter how much I failed.
21:Name one meaningful song for every month of the past year
22:What's the best thing that was said to you this year?
23:What's the worst thing that was said to you this year?
24:What's the best gift you received this year?
I don't remember any of these. Best thing said to me was probably from any of the multiple people who told me they appreciated me in some way. Worst things said get discarded by my brain. I didn't get any gifts.
25:Best book you read in 2014?
26:Best tv show you watched in 2014?
27:Best movie you saw in 2014?
28:Best song you heard in 2014?
Pitiful record for consuming culture this year. I haven't read a book in forever. ;_; I don't watch TV, but I did binge through 3 seasons of Bob's Burgers yesterday, so, uh, that one. Didn't see any movies. Best song according to my last.fm is "Schema" by Circa Survive, but I really LOVE "Child of the Desert". "Descensus" is great, too. Hell, anything from Descensus was great. If we're being a bit creative, I could even say "Alexithymia" live.
29:Most boring day of the year?
30:Saddest day of the year?
31:Scariest moments in 2014?
Most boring day is a tie for all the days I don't remember, because they were too boring. Can't really pick a sad day, I don't really operate like that. Didn't really get scared, either, unless you count the answer to #7.
32:Share the best picture you took in 2014
goddAMN AM I PROUD OF THAT ONE. Best. Picture. Ever. And this:
And honorable mention goes to this one, which is officially Josh-Scogin-approved:
because Josh Scogin AND Michael Scott McClellan both liked it on Instagram, and Josh even commented "Rad photo." on it. Schweet.
33:Share the best drawing/painting/other artwork you made in 2014
My avatar, I guess.
The real best was this sketch of Dimentio that I did where I was going to make his outfit interchangeable with jester uniform and pop-punk attire, but it got deleted when I had to wipe my tablet. :( Along with the "Deadpool x Defend Pop Punk" that I never got to finish. But I guess you can look through my deviantART to decide on what's best for yourself.
34:Did 2014 meet your expectations?
35:What's the most interesting experience you had in 2014
36:Would you say you've changed during this year?
I didn't have any expectations. Interesting, many things, but volunteering at the Desert Island Supply Company was pretty cool even if it was a giant timesink. I had quite a bit of fun at DISCo working with a bunch of kids to teach them creative writing and a lot of tangential skills. And if you really have to ask if I changed, you clearly haven't been paying attention. See #1-3.
37:What's the bravest thing you did in 2014?
38:What's the hardest thing you did in 2014?
39:What's the most impressive thing you did in 2014?
40:What's the kindest thing you did in 2014?
41:What's the most honest/dishonest thing you did in 2014?
42:What were the biggest events in your life in 2014?
I don't remember what I did in 2014. I don't remember what I did yesterday, man. And most of these are just restated from earlier questions, so... see everything before this. *skips*
43:What songs do you think will make you remember this year?
Anything from Descensus, probably. Probably "Schema." Probably "Child of the Desert." Probably anything that has lyrics about burdens, getting through things, change, you know, that stuff. Also probably Anberlin's entire discography. Especially "Alexithymia" and the entire setlist from the last three shows. The intro to "Paperthin Hymn" just transports me to those memories now.
44:Did this year teach you anything?
45:What do you expect from the new year?
Did I learn anything? Hopefully. Hopefully I know more about myself. Hopefully I learn from any mistakes. Hopefully I figure out what I'm doing with my life. Hopefully I can keep growing and stuff. Hopefully I'll be okay. But I don't expect anything. I'd rather just see for myself as it happens.
