since you are the biggest oscar isaac fan I know, have you seen sucker punch? Any thoughts on it?

i saw that movie in the theater and i. didn’t like it. i’ve seen it twice in total because i begrudgingly rewatched it recently. still don’t like it.

oscar’s performance is enjoyably campy, if you can stomach the whole “rapist pimp bastard” thing. there’s that one chelsea peretti & co. podcast that talked about sucker punch once and affectionately referred to his performance as “bananas”. which is largely what you can hope for when a great actor is cast in an obviously not well written movie. even if there were no other issues with the concept of the movie, the dialogue is really clumsily expository and stilted. but i feel like oscar isaac probably sat down with the script like “well my character is named ‘blue’ and i have a pencil moustache so fuck it. just fuck it”

though that scene near the end after babydoll’s had the lobotomy and blue takes her into what looks to be an empty communal shower and tries to get her to respond to him was deeply disturbing and surprisingly effective acting-wise. just. 

i remember being in the theater feeling really irritated w/ everything and then that scene happened and being like “look there is a nugget of acting. that’s a pretty great nugget of acting right there” (the nugget of acting was over in like forty seconds)

also it provides a good template of what oscar isaac could look like as gomez addams and that brings me joy

since you asked about everyone's day my uni chemistry project went really well today! I had a lab and got some good results so now I can stop worrying about it and I'm super happy about it. How was your day Emerson?

that's awesome to hear! i'm glad you got good results!! i've been pretty sick, so i stayed home yesterday and did some homework. i'm gonna try to make it to school today so let's see how that goes!
