Chapter 16 of I Knew a Boy, I Knew a Man is out now!
That chapter took me forever and a day to write and I'm truly relieved to be working on the next one. The words are already coming easier than before. I know I've been away from the fandom for awhile. I was doing stupid dumb shit like working multiple jobs and building confidence in my abilities as an adult human. Ew! Gross! So, thank you for sticking with me. The reception has been amazing, like coming home.
Without further ado, under the cut I give you some eleven year old Simon and Baz.
“Hiya Baz!” I shove my fork hungrily into my pile of food and take an eager bite. “Da iawn! This is good.” I point enthusiastically at my plate and turn to look at him. “Can you believe we get to eat like this everyday?”
Unfortunately, Baz looks like he can’t believe something and it’s not the food. His own fork is paused in mid-air halfway between his plate and his mouth. His lip is curled. His nose is twisted up. I look around. Everyone else at the table is mirroring his body language.
I wipe at my face with the back of my hand. Maybe I have sauce on my cheek or something.
“What?” I ask, confused.
“Why are you sitting here?” Baz asks meanly.
Alright, I need to go get ready for work where I'll get obliterated at hangman by one of my most favorite eleven year olds because she can't spell very well.
I've been absolutely loving the genius fic I Knew A Boy, I Knew A Man by @shrekgogurt ! So i thought hey i know graphic design, why not make a brand for Solsbury FC? So, please enjoy the home and away kits! The team are of course sponsored by Spotify (inspired by @artsyunderstudy) and also Mary's wonderful playlists that accompany this fic!
Also, enjoy the brain rot of several different brand ideations! Taking Mary's initial badge idea by including the eagle wings in the back and adding Solsbury Hill and the stone that sits at the top.
Okay I can’t decide! Imagine it’s late February 2024. Which song should come on in Baz’s car due to his sisters’ previous listening? Option 1 is firmly in the cultural zeitgeist at this point. It’s probably the most accurate. Sabrina Capenter was BLOWING up. Option 2 is within the realm of possibility, but doesn’t become a phenomenon until a few months later. His sisters wouldn’t know it yet, but the algorithm could still push it based on Baz’s previous listening (we know he loves a soprano). I’m sure they love Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell was her opener at this point, but over in the states. So, you see how this is tricky.
you ever put so much pressure on yourself by the story you’re weaving that now you fear you can’t deliver when it counts because everything needs to synthesize and everyone believes in you except yourself and you hate most of what you’ve written but you want it done and before you know it you’re comparing yourself to Leo Tolstoy writing Anna Karenina or is that a me thing?
HAPPY WIPSDAY ASSHOLES THIS TOO COULD BE YOUR BRAIN ON
repeatedly listening to the bridge of
Waiting Room by Phoebe Bridgers
“You’re my favorite person.”
Baz lets out a little puff of air that could be a laugh if he wasn’t so tired. His head lolls back and forth in tiny motions against the wall, shaking no with the saddest whisper of a smile.
“Don’t say that.”
I knock my knee against his again. Like he’s a door and this repeated motion might open him up.
“Why not?”
He reopens his eyes but stares at the ceiling instead of me. It makes me freeze in place, afraid I’ll spook the honesty away. His voice comes out smaller than his rapidly disappearing smile.
“Because it’s cruel.”
sorry that lacked hinge
