the air was brisk , it’s cool wind blowing against laurie’s face . it was refreshing and as much as he had enjoyed his time in europe , there had been truly nothing like this sense of home . it was a warmth that was truly unreachable in any other form . he had found himself on the pond , even so early in the day , his leather skates tight against his ankles as he circled around the outer edge . watching as people came and went , a few mumbled hellos but nothing more .
it was no surprised that he had spotted the curly-haired woman , it seemed that anyone with even the slightest resemblance of jo gravitated into his sight . it brought the same ache , the same questions . this was no different . laurie had skated close enough , just finding himself in the line of sight to be able to determine that this was not in fact josephine march . her voice forces him to freeze , eyes as wide a s a startled fawn . “ i’ll heed the warning . though i would find utter disappointment if you were not to come to my rescue , jo . ” @illsfates
— — ♠ * a familiar voice permeated the echoes of her longing, gently filling the air with the feeling of home. her legs began to move towards it, carefully at first, until desperation invaded her senses, the sharp blades of her loose skates cutting through the snow, her loose skates rubbing against her ankles, almost losing her balance. the sight of him causes her to freeze. a wisp of breath parting her lips with only his name managing to escape, “ teddy … ” jo’s voice almost broke. how long had she been waiting for that moment ? a moment she sometimes feared would never come. and yet she’d been waiting — waiting with a part of her always missing.
“ i -” there she was, with no words ever able to express her longing, running towards him, not caring if the ice was too slippery, wrapping her arms around him and burying her nose deep against his neck ; as if she was about to lose him again. just one more second, jo told herself, as if one moment too long would rip out a lingering truth in her throat. “ i’ve been waiting for you for so long. where have you been hiding all this time ? ” she broke the embrace, her eyes glimmering with unshed tears of joy. “ of course my boy, of course, i’d at least try to rescue you. ” she smiled, nudging him “ or maybe i’ll just call amy, after all, she owes you her life. ” at the mention of her sister, realization, cold and heavy like a stone, settled in. she wanted to keep that secret for a little while. but she couldn't . “ you must have been looking for her, i can call her right now …”
