Rodarte Spring 2019 RTW in ink.
Steven Van Hasten
Belgian artist Steven Van Hasten grew up in Courtrai, an ancient commercial town in West Flanders. He drew and painted on everything as a child, and created his first illustrated story – about a knight - at the age of six. His parents knew he’d grow up to be an artist. Now he’s a successful illustrator working across children’s books, editorial and advertising, he still has that passion for drawing. Each week he and some friends practice life drawing with a nude model.
Duncan Beedie
Duncan Beedie’s cartoony style comes from his background in animation. Based in Bristol, aside from drawing copious quirky images, he collects clockwork robots, can identify pretty much any military aircraft and has a dog called Ivor who you might spot here and there in his work.
Daniel O'Leary
Danny O’Leary likes to let his sense of humour out and this is something evident in his work – particularly his funny portraits and slightly outrageous caricatures. And yet you’ll find hyper-realistic Photoshop illustrations right there alongside the more sketch-like artwork in his portfolio.

John Walsom
John Walsom trained as an architect but worked in several different creative jobs before becoming an illustrator. His drawing skills were passed on to him by his father, who was an engineer but could do a great Donald Duck and is still a painter today.

Ian Murray
Born in Liverpool and now living in leafy Cheshire with his wife and daughter, Ian both an illustrator and educator, gets up at five every day to meditate, exercise and draw before the rest of the world wakes up. He’s obsessed with creative processes and productivity and loves to research the creative methodologies of artists and designers past and present.
Ian says he grew up in the ‘protect and survive’ era of British history, during the 1970s and 1980s. As a result, loves post-apocalyptic films like The Road, Omega Man and 28 Days Later and electronic music such as Aphex Twin, Belbury Poly, Moon Wiring Club and Orbital. He is also a member of Subterranean Britannica, a group that explores underground urban structures.

Chris Gilleard
As a youngster, Chris Gilleard was always drawing daft little characters and comics that made people smile. He loved doodling and dreamed that one day he’d be paid to do it. Today, he still lives in the lovely little Yorkshire town of Beverley, but has swapped his pens and pencils for an Apple Mac. Mainly using vector graphics, he creates his humorous little characters for a range of clients – including the Canadian media giant Rogers.
