This Week, we were assigned with photography in class. But not only photography, to make a movie out of it! My previous blog was about La Jetee and Boogie Woogie Daddy. And we made a movie like those ones. Images combined together, to make a narrative within the shooting rules like 180 degree rule or 30 degree rule. I tried my best.
I sure had some difficulties. Because I am staying in the campus and we are under quarantine right now, I could not find any actors for my script. I argued with my friends because they said I was stealing their time, so the movie was cancelled. I was depressed for some days, I lost my hope but then I decided to change the script.
My previous script was too serious for me, it was a good one I believe I would retweet a narrative like that on twitter (Maybe I’ll talk about it later on). But my new narrative is ‘’modern’’, and more like my style. I would rather do an absurd comedy with weird figures rather than teaching people a lesson. I mean both are important but, artist statement issues.
The assignment forbid us to use sound and color. Sound. And. Color. That would change the whooolleee story. But I was lucky because I was watching #WandaVision lately and I was so delighted and inspired by old movie sitcoms. By old, I mean like 50′s to 80′s. That gave me an idea to use black and white and silence as a sitcom.
Thanks to WandaVision, I started searching about 50′s sitcom which I found I Love Lucy . Actually, WandaVision was inspired by that sitcom. I found it very joyful to watch and so I tried to make one of them. I took my boyfriend, made him dress like the 50′s sitcom couples (I made him wear a bow tie) and also myself.
The script was about a woman (probably the wife) getting a glass which she really liked. She gives it to her boyfriend guess what happens? He breaks it. The rest of the short movie is based on him trying to repair it. In the end, she explains that the glass doesn’t matter and they hug.
About 50′s sitcoms, I used dressings, I used the narrative and I used the exaggerated mimicry. I talked about 180 degree rule right? I tried to stick to that. I am hoping that I succeeded. However, the scene where the husband breaks the glass, breaks the rule. The scene is chaotic. It is out of order and tense. My boyfriend made a great impression I could use. I used the angle from top and crossed the line only for that scene. I put 2 second black screen to increase the tension between the photographs in that scene. On the other hand, to show how irresponsible and a rulebreaker the husband is, I specifically shoot his scenes darker at the first part.
Anyways, I hope you like the short movie. I am leaving a link. Have a great day.
